news DJ Quik Changes Name And Forms "The Fixxers" - February 28, 2007 By : Lil Jay

America's most complete artist, DJ Quik, has recently changed his name to just Quik. Along with the name change, Quik has joined forces again with rapper and longtime friend AMG to launch their first single "Can You Werk Wit Dat" as a group, The Fixxers. The song will be featured on their upcoming debut album entitled "The Midnight Life". It is scheduled for release this summer.

What began as a new and innovative production company has manifested itself into a history making collabo by two Hip Hop veterans. Quik and AMG first began collaborating as kids in the early 90's. Their hit single "Bitch Better Have My Money" has been heralded by some as a West Coast classic. Now, with over 15 albums and 34 years of experience between them, Quik and AMG got back together again to breathe variety into an industry that is currently choking on redundancy. Some things are best left to the professionals!

You can catch The Fixxers performing this Friday, March 2nd at the House of Blues in Anaheim, and March 3rd & March 4th at the House Of Blues in Hollywood. Audience members will be treated to the songs that made them famous as well as other songs featured on The Fixxers upcoming album.

If you haven't heard the new single by now, hit the link below and check out Quik and AMG switching up their style. Stay tuned to Dubcnn for the latest on The Fixxers.

news Omar Cruz Releases "2007 B.C (Before Cruz)" - February 28, 2007 By : Rud

Little did we know in June 2005, when we were the first outlet to introduce Blunts LLA to the masses, what would be in store for him just two years down the line.

In late 2005 we announced the moniker switch from Blunts LLA to the now familiar Omar Cruz alongside an exclusive dubcnn mixtape download for the acclaimed "Blow: The Final Chapter." We couldn't have put it better when we said; "You know where you heard it first Blunts LLA aka Omar Cruz is going to blow in 06."

With the success of the mixtape Omar Cruz moved into 2006 looking to solidify his position as a contender in the music industry. With that in mind he crafted the DJ Skee collaboration mixtape "The Cruzifixion" to an overwhelming response from fans, new listeners, magazines and most importantly - labels. Within months Omar Cruz had inked a 50/50 deal with BYI/Interscope/Geffen to release his debut album.

That gets us up to the current timeline and the reason for todays update. Omar Cruz has recently completed his long awaited debut album precursor mixtape "2007 B.C. (Before Cruz), hosted by DJ Skee and DJ Big Mike - with the sole purpose to fan the flames of anticpation for his forthcoming debut record "Sign of the Cruz." "2007 [B.C.] includes some of the classic joints that the streets been asking for, as well as a bunch of exclusive songs. It's going to be an understandable segue into my first album. Everything before now was the era before me; it's time I stake my place in the game," explains Cruz.

Cruz is passionate for the game, not merely consumed with his own shine: "People are forgetting the whole purpose of this rap thing. For me, it's about making a name for not only myself, but also Latinos. The 2007 title and cover art reference holy war-- all the beefing and bickering that's going on right now. I'm trying to break stereotypes and put good music out there. One of the reasons album sales are down is that people are making records with only a few singles, and the rest is garbage. And fans are supporting the garbage!"

Dead set against this trend, "2007 B.C." sets off right with lead single "Vatos Locos," other burners include "Armed Robbers" alongside Big Pun, West Coast anthem "Just When" with co-conspirators The Game and 2Pac and the unforgiving "Gun Talk." As much substance as style however, Cruz offers more than a couple of high-profile guest appearances; "B.Y.I. Entertainment's Music Producer 'Rome' and I are actually introducing a new sound in the game, which I'm excited about. It's a vintage Latino soul sound: heavy organs, heavy horns. This is soul street music unlike any other. The tape goes hard for over 20 songs, and with DJ Skee and DJ Big Mike as the hosts, we feel like we have the best from the West and the East."

Among those 20-plus songs is a freestyle by a Los Angelese emcee who won a contest via Omar Cruz's myspace page searching for the hottest 16 spit by a Latin rapper. Despite eventually choosing an LA cat to appear, Cruz was impressed by the scope of the submissions; "The love was from all over: from Canada to New Orleans to Mississippi to Chicago. MySpace is a great way to get feedback and find out what's hot. Also, you can create buzz without needing the machine behind you."

Omar Cruz is part throwback, part firebrand. He laments that making an album is a "lost art in the game," and that each should "should stand alone as a moment in time, as a piece of art." He also promises that despite the effort invested into each of his mixtapes his debut album expected later this year will take things to another level entirely - rest assured that Cruz will come out swinging when his debut hits shelves this summer.

We have the aforementioned lead single from the mixtape "Vatos Locos" for download below, the track can also be heard on Power 106 right now so make sure you request it and support the new release.

Omar Cruz - Vatos Locos

In related news look out for Omar Cruz on the Cuervoton tour this summer. Until then you can check out more news and audio over at Cruz' official MySpace page. We will, as ever, be keeping you fully updated on Omar Cruz and his impending debut "Sign Of The Cruz."

news Kurupt Presents: Tangled Thoughts "Philly 2 Cali" - February 27, 2007 By : Rud

The abundance of rock, R&B and Hip-Hop influence that flourishes in Philadelphia's underground music scene has paved the way for dozens of artists to achieve worldwide success. Philly native Kurupt may have made a name for himself in the California scene, but he has always envisioned ways to bring his East and West Coast influences together.

In this instance Kurupt has aligned with Philadelphia group Tangled Thoughts to present their new album, "Kurupt Presents: Tangled Thoughts Philly 2 Cali," due for a May 22 release on Good Hands Records.

It was the Spring of 2005 when Tangled Thoughts members Tek, De and Cas first hooked up with legendary Dogg Pound Gangsta member Kurupt. After collaborating on a number of projects together, Kurupt was extremely impressed with the trio, and convinced them to take their act to Los Angeles. In the Fall of 2005 they did just that, hoping to follow the same "Philly 2 Cali" route to success Kurupt enjoyed in his storied career. "Kurupt is from the generation that we look up to, and we grew up listening to his classic albums. He's bringing the young boys up and showing us the ropes," explains De.

DJ Truth, Good Hands Records CEO, echoes the sentiment; "Being able to work with Kurupt on breaking a group as talented as Tangled Thoughts has really been an exciting experience. Kurupt has contributed so much to Hip Hop already - it really says a lot about the group that he wanted to help make this happen. At the end of the day though, the music speaks for itself. It is not an accident that so many respected Philly and Cali artists wanted to be involved."

"Philly 2 Cali" boasts an all star line-up of guests, which includes Freeway, Roscoe, Sen Dog of Cypress Hill, Mellow Man Ace, Gillie Da Kid, Ab Liva, Gail Gotti, Natasha Ramos and more. In addition to his creative input on the album, Kurupt lends his surefire delivery on six tracks. "This album is bringing the feel and vibe of the West Coast and mixing it with the swagger and lyricism of the East Coast. I wanted to break up the monotony and pigeon-holing, and make an album that you can put on anywhere, and can play it all the way through and everyone will feel it," explains producer/emcee Tek.

Below we have the tracklist for the new album as well as two new tracks off the release that the group have released from the project. One is the Freeway and Rok Bottom collaboration record "Til The Sun Come Up" while the second, "Jumpoff," sees Kurupt & Roscoe spitting heat.

news Reviews: Ya Boy/DJ Skee & Omarion - February 26, 2007 By : Rud

Today we have two new review's of one recently released mixtape from Bay Area sensation Ya Boy and an album from R&B star Omarion

The first review is of the long awaited and much talked about Ya Boy mixtape with DJ Skee entitled, "Chapter 1: The Rise." The new material was released at the end of last month and as such Dubcnn took time to compile a review. Our writer, Big Mil, sums up the release with the Dub Quotable: "Known for his wicked punch-lines and gritty flow, Ya Boy is a unique rapper that appeals to both the underground and mainstream audiences. By the end of this tape, then, he will more than likely appeal to you."

The second review is from another of our new writers, Eddie Gurrola, who only last week presented the Tyrese (AKA Black Ty) - Alter Ego review. This time he takes a look at "21", the sophomore album from Omarion, and provides us with the Dub Quotable: "Omarion has some way to go before he becomes the next Usher or R. Kelly, but with this album he earns his spot alongside the remaining top-tier R&B performers of today."

news Unity Festival Reforms Under The Soul Assassins - February 25, 2007 By : Rud

The Hip-Hop concerts known as Unity originally started in 1991 and became the central point of a whole Los Angeles Hip-Hop movement. Started by William Lanakila Operin aka "Bigga B," Unity catered to a growing Hip-Hop audience and laid the foundation for an environment where Gangsta Rap prevailed in the early nineties.

Unlike countless other events of its time, Unity saw legendary Hip-Hop artists such as Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Pharcyde, Biggie, Jay Z, Hieroglyphics, Boot Camp Click and others grace their stage.

A decade-and-a-half later, Unity is being resurrected by the legendary Soul Assassins under the new name title Soul Assassins Unity Festival.

The previous sold out show was a monumental display of Hip-Hop enthusiasts and performing artists alike connecting in the true spirit of Unity. The show was an over-whelming success and The Source magazine was there to capture it all, which resulted in a feature two-page spread in the January 2007 edition. Chace Infinate of Self Scientific said; "The first show was an incredible night, it was proof that people still want to see quality Hip-Hop shows, March 8th is gonna be crazy!"

Due to the first Unity's sold out show, the second installment of Unity on March 8th 2007 had to be expanded and will now be held at the famous Avalon Theater in Hollywood. This event promises to be an eclectic resurgence of mind blowing Hip-Hop energy which features the first official Los Angeles performance by La Coka Nostra, a supergroup comprised of House Of Pain's Everlast, Danny Boy, and DJ Lethal, Non Phixion's Ill Bill, and Boston's very own Slaine.

Also onstage will be Evidence of Dilated Peoples along side Defari of the Likwit Crew, plus Puerto Rican rap star Chino XL and new Hip-hop buzz group heavily featured on dubcnn Pacific Division. All star DJ's for the night are DJ Mark Luv / Zulu Nation, J-Rocc of the Beat junkies, and Mr. Choc. The event will also feature a cash only retail installment by L.A.'s premiere streetwear boutique Grey One.

In the continuous spirit of excellence Unity will host special surprise celebrity performances only to be revealed once you step in the door. We urge everyone to get tickets in advance to guarantee entry as this show will also be Sold Out! Tickets are available at Groove Tickets or via the Unity Myspace page

news The Game & Young Jeezy - BMRC Concert - February 23, 2007 By : JustinL

New York, NY- Boost Mobile RockCorps (BMRC), the national youth volunteerism movement that has motivated more than 16,000 young people to get involved and help their communities, today announced that recording artists Korn, The Game, +44, Rise Against and Young Jeezy are to perform at this year's first-ever BMRC concert event at LA's Kodak Theatre on March 30. The concert will reward 3,000 hard-working local youth who have volunteered four hours of community service through BMRC to earn tickets to this ultra-exclusive event.

RockCorps, an organization harnessing the power of music to inspire volunteerism, and Boost Mobile, a wireless telecommunications brand dedicated to boosting the lives of today's youth, continue their highly successful partnership for the third year in a row. BMRC exposes young people to simple and fun ways they can proactively contribute to their neighborhoods and positively transform society. Combining the power of music, community and volunteerism, Boost Mobile RockCorps will offer entrance to this summer's most popular concerts for which the only way in is to earn tickets by contributing four hours of volunteer service.

A recent comparison of BMRC and non-BMRC participants illustrates the impact of the program on today's young people. Findings suggest close to 80% of BMRC volunteers are likely to volunteer again in the future - without a concert ticket/reward. Additionally, 73% of participants who attended the BMRC concert conveyed it gave them a sense of how powerful volunteer work can be. Music has the power to bring people together, and Boost Mobile RockCorps is channeling this power as a catalyst for making volunteering cool and relevant to today's youth.

BMRC 2007 kicked off in Los Angeles in early February with a diverse roster of volunteer projects and partnerships involving local LA youth that will culminate with the unprecedented concert event at the Kodak Theater. Major reward concert events are also scheduled to take place at Atlanta's Fox Theatre and New York City's legendary Radio City Music Hall later this year, with additional tour stops to be announced next month.

Last year's BMRC program made stops in Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. By the end of the 2006 tour, BMRC volunteers had contributed approximately 40,000 hours of community service and transformed close to 125 project sites in eight cities across the country.

Youth interested in becoming part of the Boost Mobile RockCorps movement can call BMRC at 1-888-ROCK-889, or log onto www.boostmobilerockcorps.com for more information and to register for membership. BMRC members will be notified of volunteer opportunities in their area.

news Carson Native Madi-B Gathers Momentum With Hit Single - February 18, 2007 By : Rud

"I am the streets. The streets tell me what to say and I tell y’all"Madi B

With that in mind we decided to bring the street storyteller from Carson, California to dubcnn to let the world take note of a talented youngster. If experience truly is the best teacher, then the lessons on the lifestyles of the hood-rich and infamous are about to be revealed on the debut offering "Street G.E.D" by Madi B.

The Carson native has taken his education from the streets, the same streets that he has grown up watching the affluent urban community camouflage the mayhem which lurked in its gang riddled cult de sacs. Those same life lessons he has prepared over a soundtrack that has evolved into his debut release "Street G.E.D."

Madi B, born Mammadi Kabba, shortened his name and added the B to stand for Black to represent his respect for the richness in the culture that stems from the roots of his mother’s homeland of Sierra Leone. Madi’s imprint of being an over-achiever was established by his mother, a self made woman who was able to obtain a double masters while being a single parent of two. Madi B, as we menotioned earlier, chose to graduate from the streets. Although he avoided gang-life, Madi B couldn’t deny his desire to chase the almighty dollar, so while his mother was away at work he put in work on the streets. As fate would have it, his antics found him missing his senior year of high-school due to a conviction that landed him in jail for 10 months.

It was during this time, however, he picked up a skill from watching a friend who happened to be locked up at the same time. "My boy was always in there free styling and the more I listened to him the more I felt like I could do it too. I knew once I got out of jail I had to do something different because I knew jail wasn’t a place I ever wanted to go back to," explains Madi

Fresh from lock up, Madi B made sure to go back and get his GED and entered a competition that would change his life forever. Dedicated to his dreams, Madi B’s talent was discovered through an audition held by newly-launched Anytime Records. The company’s founders, Bobby & Monique Evans didn’t hesitate to sign him. "His talent is just undeniable," says Bobby. "He impressed us with his vocal deliver and tone. His style is unique."

Currently making public appearances on a regional high-school promo tour, Madi B can also be found climbing the charts of various record-pool and mix-show charts, with his hit single "My Money’s Long" - a track that we have for exclusive download below. With other notable tracks including Glasses Up and "Unsincerely Yours" Madi B offers a refreshing new vibe to west coast music. In an industry where perspective and identity can be easily lost, Madi B can hold his own.

Madi B - My Money's Long

In related news, Madi B has been invited to perform at the star-studded Checkwriter's NBA All-Star Party Weekend. Madi B will hit the stage today, Sunday, February 18, 2007 at the finale hosted by Lil Wayne and Young Money Entertainment. The party, which takes place at the opulent Parisian Palace in Las Vegas, NV, is the ultimate player's paradise as the playmakers convene to ball out of control for All-Star Weekend. For the latest on Madi B stay tuned to dubcnn or hit up the official Anytime Records website or MySpace page.

news Damizza & Bishop Lamont Unveil: 'Let Me Hear It Music' - February 16, 2007 By : Rud

Two of the busiest men in music have recently taken time out of their hectic schedules to combine and form an organistation to help aspiring artists get heard, get constructive cristicism and ultimately - get deals!

Damizza, who is hard at work on the upcoming collaboration album "Back B4 Ur Lonely" with Butch Cassidy, and Bishop Lamont, Aftermath Records' signee and Dr. Dre protégé who is currently finalising two mixtapes and his debut album "The Reformation" - are asking you to "Let Me Hear It"

That's right, Damizza and Bishop Lamont want to hear your music and be able to give you the time and energy you deserve on getting your music heard, critiqued and all importantly get the feedback direct from them.

The concept behind this move, which can be seen at Let Me Hear It Music, is the result of the pair being inundated with demos and requests that they can't always deal with; this new venture will ensure they can get through material that people really want them to hear and then take the time to listen and evaluate the music properly.

The pair will endevour to listen to all the material submitted, when they cannot then the studio teams, the Mad Scientists, will evaluate the music and then let the pair know what's hot and what's not! Bishop Lamont and Damizza have recorded a video on the new Let Me Hear It Music website to explain it all in detail however we think this quote sums it up; "Don't make it if you can't take it! What i mean by that is make sure you can take criticism, cause i'm gonna be cold than a muthaf-cka like Dre is on me."

Aspiring artists, do not miss out on this opportunity to sumbit your material, this is your chance to be heard and prove your worth - the first 150-200 material submissions will get video responses of Bishop Lamont and/or Damizza critiquing your record, live and direct!

In related news it appears that "Who I Gotta Kill To Get A Record Deal" Volumes II and III are in the works and are set to be industry samplers - that means that at Bishop's discretion yout hot material could make its way onto the same mixtape series that got into Dr. Dre's hand to sign Bishop Lamont to Aftermath - don't miss your chance head over to Let Me Hear It Music.com right now and submit your material for only $19.99

news The SleptOns Are The "Father Emcees" - February 16, 2007 By : Lil Jay

The SleptOns were responsible for last summer's Inland Empire supertrack "The Whole 9" which unified the whole I.E. Hip Hop scene on one track [see The Inland Empire Connects On "The Whole 9"]. Involved were artists such as Fingazz, Sly Boogy, Dr. Stank, Dirty Birdy, Lunch, Diamonique, WS Bugg, and many more.

The song was a good opportunity for the newer artists involved to showcase their skills. The SleptOns' Milk and Gus capitalized off the track and they followed up with a full length album entitled "Father Emcees".

The album just came out and The SleptOns continue to grow as artists and to reach new people on a daily basis. "Father Emcees" has features and production from Diamonique, Gambit Da Bum, R&B, L.A.'s upcoming artist Benny Cassette, and others.

As always, Dubcnn has a few songs available for download. To hear more tracks or to order a copy for only 5 bucks, head over to their MySpace page @ myspace.com/sleptons.

news Notorious B.I.G.'s 10th Anniversay - "Greatest Hits" - February 16, 2007 By : Rud

Bad Boy Records has announced the upcoming release of the Notorious B.I.G.'s long awaited "Greatest Hits" collection. The 16-track compilation honoring the extraordinary life and career of the late, great hip-hop legend will hit stores on March 6th.

The album features tracks spanning the one-and-only Biggie Smalls's prolific yet all-too-brief career will also contain two previously unreleased cuts - "Running Your Mouth" and "Want That Old Thing Back."

The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Greatest Hits" commemorates what is unquestionably one of hip-hop's most remarkable bodies of work, gathering together such iconic classics as "Juicy," "One More Chance," "Big Poppa," "Notorious Thugs," "Ten Crack Commandments," "Dead Wrong," and the #1 smash, "Hypnotize."

"Christopher Wallace was more than an artist, he was my friend. The Notorious B.I.G., as most knew him, was a rapper, a story teller, and a prolific poet. However, many didn't have a chance to see the Father, Husband, and Man that I knew. Through his words, persona, life, and music, he was able to open doors and create opportunities for Hip-Hop as a whole. I wanted to celebrate his legacy, life, and work as we mourn his senseless death 10 years ago. The release of 'Greatest Hits' makes it clear to the world why the Notorious B.I.G is the greatest rapper of all time," explains Bad Boy CEO Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Bad Boy Executive VP and General Manager Harve Pierre continued; "It's time to celebrate the legacy of the Best that ever did it. We realize just how connected fans remain to his classic work and wanted to issue a 'Greatest Hits' to celebrate the life of Christopher Wallace. We'll always love Big Poppa and are forever thankful for what he has done for the Bad Boy family and Hip-Hop culture."

The release of the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Greatest Hits" will mark the 10th anniversary of the Brooklyn-born-and-bred rapper's untimely passing, on March 9, 1997. The compilation follows the RIAA platinum-certified "Duets: The Final Chapter" which debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 upon its December 2005 release.

news J. Wells Recently Arrested in Atlanta - February 15, 2007 By : JustinL

J. Wells was recently arrested in Atlanta on two charges of disorderly conduct and violation of city ordinance. The west coast producer stood outside his own house while attempting to change two blown out tires on his car. Two police officers believed J. Wells was involved in suspicious activity, and began to approach and question him.

He explained to the officers that he was on his own property trying to change his own tires, and hadn't done anything illegal. Police then asked for his driver's license, and upon returning identification, they also issued him a ticket.

He did not understand the reason for the ticket, and had some words for the officers, which then resulted in his arrest. J. Wells is out on bail right now, and awaiting court date.

Dubcnn will keep you posted with further news from J. Wells, and look for studio footage to be on the front page next week.

news Nike 25th Anniversary "Better Than I've Ever Been" - February 15, 2007 By : JustinL

The much talked about collaboration on the NIKE- commissioned hip hop track, "Better Than I've Ever Been" which features Kanye West, Nas and KRS-One, and produced by Rick Rubin, will be available on February 20th on iTunes.

Twenty-five years ago NIKE released the Air Force 1 to satisfy the demands of the most uncompromising and forceful players in the game of basketball. In 1982, the Air Force 1 became the first basketball shoe to feature NIKE Air technology. The comfort and protective qualities of the AF1 changed the game forever and created a platform that launched NIKE's long-running legacy in performance basketball.

Embraced and revered by the basketball community the Air Force 1's impact was felt way beyond its hard court roots. The shoe had something unique about it and was embraced as quickly off the court as it was on. The urban street culture that gave birth to this music scene is the same culture that has supported the Air Force 1 from its inception. In 2006, NIKE commemorated the Air Force 1's 25th anniversary. As part of these celebrations, NIKE commissioned a stellar cast of artists to record an original track that pays homage to the perseverance of the AF1 and the community that has championed it.

A remix of the track by DJ Premier and featuring the addition of Rakim, titled "Classic (Better Than I've Ever Been DJ Premier Remix)" will also be available on iTunes for purchase. The tracks will be sold individually and all NIKE and artist proceeds from the sale of the track will be donated to the "NIKE Youth Sport for Change Fund," to support youth programs that use sport as a catalyst for change.

news Baldy works "Overtime" with Meech Wells - February 9, 2007 By : Adon

Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Baldy exploded on to the hip hop scene in the early 90’s when he connected with cross-town rivals “New Breed of Hustlers” of Riverside, California. There he began producing for Mobstyle Records connecting with childhood friend and platinum producer Meech Wells.

In the words of Baldy, “Me and Meech were always cool, we lived in the same neighborhood and knew each other, but we never actually worked together until Mobstyle. They had their own commercial studio and I was able to hone my production skills and learn some tricks of the trade from him”.

Baldy later moved to Vancouver to mix down his debut solo album “9991” and ended up opening his own independent record company, Hard Tymez Records. After receiving radio and sales success with a string of 5 albums, the label came to a halt for personal reasons.

Baldy then returned to LA, where he reunited with Wells who was working on numerous other projects including Wells’ first solo album “The Cure”.

“Meech was working on his record and he asked if I wanted in; there was no question” claims Baldy. “He was workin’ with The Game, Freeway, Bad Azz, Kokane, Drastik, Rob Dog and others so it was phat.”

Meech signed Baldy as a producer to his production company “In a Zone”. And in his spare time while working with Meech, Baldy began work on his new solo album “Overtime”, which Meech Wells subsequently executive produced along with Mr Cas from New Breed of Hustlas.

Baldy then returned to Vancouver to put the finishing touches on his album and hook up with some more artists. With tight production and a definite West Coast feel “Overtime” has it all; the personal songs, the conscious songs, the club bangers, and the smoke songs. Be on the look out for “Overtime” soon, and check the tracklist below.

1. Boogie
2. F***in’ Wit
3. Playaz
4. Smile
5. Fedy
6. Ghetto Song
7. Baby Mama Drama
8. Sara
9. Round and Round
10. Work It
11. Break U Off II (Produced By Meech Wells)

13. He’z Seldom Seen
14. Lock and Load
15. Drowning
16. Weed Break
17. LA 2 BC

As said above the album is executive produced by Meech Wells & Mr Cas from New Breed of Hustlas. Be on the lookout for “Overtime” soon. In the meantime, check out Baldy on his Myspace for more info and some other tracks off "Overtime".

news Mark Morrison Aims For Chart Success With "Dance 4 Me" - February 9, 2007 By : Rud

2007 marks the targeted chart return of the British artist Mark Morrison. One of the most successful UK R&B acts of the 1990's returns in with his new single "Dance 4 Me" featuring Tanya Stephens.

Mark Morrison is best remembered for his 1996 Worldwide Top 10 hit single, "Return Of The Mack" which saw him quickly gain international success, including a double platinum plaque in the U.S. With his success came noteriety as he was plagued by run-ins with the law that prevented him from consolidating his position in the industry.

Last year he emerged from relative obscurity with an album, "Innocent Man," that due to label problems and mis-marketing slipped unnoticed by many. Now in 2007 Mark Morrison has released "Dance 4 Me" to solidify a chart position and draw eyes back to his latest album. The new single, released this week on iTunes, Napster and all digital outlets, is taken from the aforementioned album "Innocent Man" which includes collaborations with DMX, Daz Dillinger, Tray Deee, Alexander O'Neal, Elephant Man and Adina Howard.

There are two versions of the single available for download, the second CD contains the T-Pain Remix of "Dance 4 Me", for those that don't know, T-Pain is Akon's protege, signed to Jive Records. The track is produced by California based production team The Costars.

news Nostalgic Nas Asks "Where Are They Now" - February 4, 2007 By : Rud

Last year the Hip-Hop world took note and praised the efforts of The Game for his mammoth "One Blood Remix" featuring the majority of today's relevant Hip-Hop artists [see; The Game "One Blood" Remix [Audio]] - however what we have for you today is nothing short of historic.

Nas, currently riding the wave of success that his latest album "Hip Hop Is Dead" is having, took time to track down what can only be described as a "Whose Who" of artists that have effectively fallen off the mainstream Hip-Hop radar - effectively the MC's that that majority of us grew up on.

The aptly titled "Where Are They Now" series has, so far, spawned three recently released tracks; an 80's mix, a 90s mix and a Westcoast mix. All three are of the highest quality both musically and lyrically and will have you all in awe.

Nas - Where Are They Now (80's Remix) (Feat. MC Shan, Raheem (Furious Five), Doctor Ice (UTFO), Kangol (UTFO), Kool Moe Dee, Sha Rock (Funky Four +1), Tito (Fearless Four), Grandmaster Caz (Cold Crush Brothers), Lique (Isis of X Clan), Dana Dane, Pebblee Poo & Just Ice)

Nas - Where Are They Now (90's Remix) (Feat. Redhead Kingpin, Rob Base, Original Spinderella, Father MC, Monie Love, Mike Gee (Jungle Brothers), E-S-T (3XDope), Dres (Black Sheep), Das Efx, DoItAll (Lords of the Underground), Chip-Fu (Fu-Schnickens) and Positive K)

Nas - Where Are They Now (West Coast Remix) (Feat. Breeze, Kam, King Tee, Candyman, Threat, Ice-T, Sir Mix-A-Lot and the Conscious Daughters - scratches from DJ Bobcat)

At the start of the Westcoast Remix Nas poses the question; "Is Hip-Hop Dead or still alive?" - after these Nas we can only say that as long as these MC's are breathing and have the ability to spit - it certainly isnt dead.

Stay tuned to dubcnn as we hear there are possibly another three tracks of this ilk in the pipeline for imminent release.

news Dreamz & Meech Wells "In A Stretched Out Limousine" - February 2, 2007 By : Rud

Today we have an update regarding another up and coming talent, a Chicano artist called Dreamz. Dreamz has been raised all across LA and the San Fernando Valley also known as the 818.

Having discovered his talent during his midteens Dreamz went on to write and record his first home made mixtape which created enough of a local buzz to warrant a call from a studio in Glendale called Back Room Entertainment, this led him to record his debut single "Free My Mind" a single that landed him the chance to meet with an A&R.

Mrs. Katie Martin, who worked for Arista Records, took him to meet the A&R's of both Interscope and Capital Records. Dreamz played them his single and rapped live for them in their office. Interscope took an instant interest and asked Dreamz to return when he had more material to take it further.

It took Dreamz longer than he anticipated to package up the right music material and by the time Dreamz was 20 had linked up with a producer named DJ Sativa and started his own project independently. The offers then came in over the next few years one where he had an option to ghostwrite material, another from Sony that would've meant recording material in spanish and another where he was offered a distribution deal through Universal Records, but Dreamz became incarcerated in the LA County Jail and lost contact.

Now at age 26 he has finished his third Independent album "Together We Rise" with Producer 2 Swift and AG Above Ground Entertainment and is now working on a mix-tape with multi-platnum producer Meech Wells and In A Zone Productions in conjunction with DJ Warrior (Cali Untouchables).

We have the first track from that upcoming release called "In My Stretched Out Limousine" for download below which features production from Meech Wells as well as appearances from Kokane, Shadow and Sporty Loco, the latter of whom recently signed to Warner Bros Records.

Dreamz - In My Stretched Out Limousine (Feat. Kokane, Shadow & Sporty Loco)

We are certain you will enjoy the new track and as such will be keeping you up to date with Dreamz and his new project with Meech Wells and DJ Warrior over the coming months; stay tuned to dubcnn. In the meantime check out Meech Wells' official MySpace page as well as Dreamz' official MySpace page.
