news New Kam Feat. Game & Yung Bruh (Audio) - March 31, 2006 By : Lil Jay

This man surely needs no introduction. Mr. Watts Up Kam is back by popular demand. For now it's only a little appetizer, cause the MC is still working on getting his long awaited album "Self & Kind" released. Fans wouldn't believe it even if they heard Kam himself say it, as it was first announced four years back.

Kam is known for always speaking what's on his mind, and for this little audio preview we got, he didn't change one bit which is all right with me. The song is called "Keep My Name Out Yo Mouth" and it features his younger brother Yung Bruh, and Aftermath's The Game on the last verse.

Los Angeles beatmaker Babyboy is responsible for the production duties of the song. "Keep My Name Out Yo Mouth" will be featured on Kam's new album "Self & Kind", scheduled for release in October. If not October, expect it early next year as the album keeps getting pushed back for political reasons. Stay posted on Dubcnn for more info on the album.

To hold you down until then, Dubcnn is bringing you the Mp3 of "Keep My Name Out Yo Mouth". Download it below:

news MC Eiht Is "Affiliated" On April 4th - March 31, 2006 By : Rud

As we have been reporting all year westcoast veteran MC Eiht is back with his nineteenth album release; "Affiliated" - his first release through Paid In Full/Koch; due out on April 4. This album will feature his first enhanced disc; the special product will contain 14 album tracks, exclusive interview footage and a new music video starring MC Eiht performing the song "Say Nothin."

Among the album’s authentic Compton born and bred tracks is the radio single, "CPT’z Bac" (159 Remix Featuring CMW), produced by Raw Steel.

The song was well received when premiered right here on dubcnn and was added into airplay at the legendary Los Angeles radio station KDAY by Julio G after he heard it right here on dubcnn. Throughout "Affiliated" MC Eiht comes back strapped with his trademark style on new songs like "Where U Frum" (Featuring Gangsta Luv of the Road Dawgs) where as on "Just Lean" he adopts a laid back track by Chill and DJ Subflo, a drum and bass producer, who is also a well-known rave DJ. MC Eiht says: "I got down with my man Sub, because I wanted people to know that we got all types of flavors, not just hiphop, but we got all kinds of diversity. So I did this one on the strength of how we lean in Compton."

MC Eiht states the track is reminiscent of much of the feel of his classic album with Comptons Most Wanted, "Music To Driveby" due to the amount of slow grooves on it: "A lot of down South niggas like to hear their stuff slow and screwed and chopped, so that was my focus when I heard the beat; the first thing I thought about was Texas and down South, and how they be chopping and screwing their shit. I wanted for them to get down, because they’ve always been supportive of MC Eiht, and what I do, so I just wanted to throw some of that back."

Other tracks on the album include "Gangsta Minded" which features Jaz and Chill; Jaz being a new female rapper. Eiht explains: "Chill made the beat, and she wanted to rip it, so we let her get down, and we decided to hop on down there with her. Her flow is tight, and she is real gangsta with it. No fur coats and talking about sex and diamonds, because she’s hood with it. If a female raps, I want to hear her come like me. When she did it, I was amazed. A nigga didn’t have to direct her, or tell her what to write about, because she knows where she was from. On a solo project, it is the first time I ever got down with a female, and she put it down tight."

The long anticipated track "Smoke This" features Chill and Jayo Felony; althought it was produced by Silk some time ago it was never released. Eiht remarks: "It describes what we’re seeing in street rap, gangsta rap right now. At the time we recorded it, people were rapping about happy stuff like partying and chains and planes and stuff. We were expressing our frustration in the music, and we were fed up with people not wanting to deal with the real in their music. Now people are trying to be hard and trying to be where they’re not even from. So it is still just perfect for today." When Eiht was asked about the inspiration behind the track "2 Compton MF’z" featureing Big2DaBoy he explained: "I was an old school NWA, Eazy-E fan. Eazy and Ren had a song back in the day called “2 Hard MF’s,” so I wanted to say two Compton motherf*&^%$s, ‘cuz it’s introducing the upcoming artist Big2daboy at my label, West Music. I wanted to showcase it with us both being from Compton. With his being the young generation and me being like the older generation, I wanted to show that we still have it on lock."

On "Affiliated" MC Eiht addresses the fact that corporate sponsored hiphop artists have misconstrued and misrepresented West Coast gang culture. MC Eiht revealed: "A lot of what you’re seeing in the videos out there is fake. Because a lot of these niggas who are doing this now were not even doing this shit, gangbangin.’ For me to be the age I am, and to know gangbangin' in Compton since I was 12 years old, a lot of these cats, who are claiming this and that, ain’t but 26 years old. So a lot of them weren’t even around when it started. Also, they’re not even in the geographic areas, the sections that gang banging was even involved in. Like it just evolved a couple years ago in certain areas, and now niggas run with it, and pretend like they grew up with it. To have niggas thirty years later start gangbanging, and saying that they’re original with it is just ludicrous. The corporations are just trying to market our culture. So now it’s marketable to major corporations to wear tattoos and wear a rag, and claim to be from a neighborhood."

So next week ensure you grab a copy of MC Eiht's latest release "Affiliated" to see if he adds more tracks to his existing Compton Classics. Geah! For now; remind your self of the single to the album; "CPT’z Bac" which we premiered this year

MC Eiht - CPT’z Bac (Feat. CMW & King T)

Stay tuned to dubcnn as ever for the latest news and audio from MC Eiht.

news Behind the Scenes of the DPGC "Real Soon" Music Video - March 30, 2006 By : JustinL

Dubcnn recently had the opportunity to attend the video shoot for "Real Soon" which features Snoop Dogg, Daz, Kurupt, Nate Dogg, and Battlecat.
This song marked a milestone in the careers of the DPGC collective, as it was the first time in a very long while that all four were recording together. We were happy to be a part of this video shoot, and to witness the great music that they create.

The song and video was made as a dedication to Stanley Tookie Williams, who faced capital punishment on death row in December of last year.

Snoop was instrumental in rallying for Tookie's clemency, and had even made trips up north to the San Quentin prison. However, after all their combined efforts, the governor still denied clemency.

Make sure to go out and pick up the "Welcome 2 tha Chuuch-Da Album" from your local record store, and look out for upcoming solo albums from Kurupt, Daz (So So Gangsta), Snoop (Blue Carpet Treatment), and the entire DPGC collective. Thanks to Koch and Doggystyle Records for inviting us to the video shoot. Please check out the exclusive behind the scenes footage below.

news Scan Has "Passion" & Flow & Lyrics... - March 27, 2006 By : Rud

Now dubcnn has been dropping audio and information on westcoast artist Scan since early last year however we failed to properly expose his debut album "The Passion" - yes you read that right we slipped up on that one, so apologies to Scan and the GroundUp Entertainment camp.

Last year we did premiere the L.A natives freestyle over Jay-Z's "Throw Ya Hands Up" beat and he murdered it, let us tell you this; the album is no different - fresh production, lyics, hot flow all showcased in one place, "The Passion."

Reason we are dropping this update is to once again re-iterate the message we have been dropping since early 2005 - Scan is not to be slept on. As ever to back up that claim we have some audio from the album; however not a track we would usually drop as we have the "Intro". Now why would we drop an Intro to an album and not a track? Exactly; because it is an intro that is a track and because it showcases what Scan is all about from the start and what to expect from the rest of the album, no front; No B.S.

So take some time out to listen to the track and stop over at the dubcnn community to let us know your thoughts on this banger. Look for more from Scan this year; right here on dubcnn.

Scan - Intro

Once you have listened to the sample track, which let me remind you is only the Intro to "The Passion" head over to Scan's MySpace page to learn more about him and head over to CDBaby to hear more audio and to order the CD.

news Partners ‘N Crime "Bubble, Bubble" Down South - March 27, 2006 By : Rud

Dubcnn takes a quick trip to the south for an update on Partners ‘N Crime, one of Crescent City’s most popular rap groups. Since the 90s they have helped pioneer the cities thriving hip hop scene. The duo, comprising of the notorious Walter Williams (alias: Kangol) and the infamous Michael Patterson known on the streets as Mr. Meana, are two childhood friends from New Orleans 17th Ward who have been rocking the Southern underground for well over a decade. In that time they had interest from the then fledgling rap label Cash Money, before they opted to ink a deal with another local label called Big Boy.

In that time they garnered local notoriety through a bitter rivalry with another N.O. rap act by the name of UNLV. After that had been squashed the group enjoyed hits with "Pump the Party" and "N.O. Block Party." Yet even though they were selling thousands of records independently they still found their careers hitting a glass ceiling.

All of that changed when they got the chance to record with Juvenile who sat down and talked to them about their career. They told him that they weren’t happy with the way things were going and wanted to start their own label, Crime Lab Entertainment. Juvenile, knowing the duos struggle first hand, offered them a split label deal with his label UTP shortly after inking his deal with Rap-a-Lot Records. They accepted and quickly started working on their new album "Club Banger." As the name suggests, "Club Banger" has its share of rowdy, club-friendly jams; Partners ‘N Crime when asked about the new album said: "This album is real universal, I mean you can listen to this album anywhere and it’ll be banging. You can put us on the West Coast, the East Coast, the Mid West or the South and believe me there’s gonna be something on there that they gonna love. This is our best effort to date. And it’s gonna get even better on the next one."

We have the lead single of the new album due out on April 4th called; "Bubble, Bubble" which features Juvenile & Skip.

Partners N Crime - Bubble Bubble (Feat. Juvenile & Skip)

Listen to the single; download it, listen to it and please stop in the ever expanding dubcnn community to let us know your thoughts.

news Bigg Steele Showcases New Album Direction On "Warrior" - March 26, 2006 By : Rud

Dubcnn is back again with more news and audio from Bigg Steele. As we have been reporting all year he is currently working on his sophomore album "Cereal & Water" which is due out in July. So far this year he has held down the coveted "Newest Joint" spot on dubcnn for two weeks with the heater; "The Streets" and in February he allowed us to also premiere another album preview track; Holla Back which features the unmistakable Dirty Birdy of the Homeless Nation.

Since then he has been busy working on the album and talking with various labels; news on that soon.

He has however still taken time to hit up dubcnn and our readers with another banger. This time Bigg Steele has created a track called "Warrior." The start of the track begins a reign of bullets and a narrator;

"Crips, Bloods, Cholos; Come on down Uncle Sams looking for a few good men. F-cking dummies like killing each other anyway and were in the biggest f-cking gang in the god damn free world"

Then the beat kicks in with what can only be described as a military style, the track is hard hitting yet basic in melody however that seems to be exactly what Steele needs and desires as he tears into the beat with his unique tone and lyrical stance. As we previously reported the Long Beach rapper is taking a different approach to his follow up album and this record again showcases that. Look for the album to feature Hard-Hitting production with even harder lyrics and topics than the last album. "Cereal & Water" will come with guest appearances from Hi-C, Big Syke, Dirty Birdy, Dr. Stank, Diamonique, Coolwadda, Balance, Juice, Spitfiya, Kokane, and others. The album will be available worldwide, as Steele as we said earlier is currently finalising a major deal for his company Street Currency Entertainment; stay tuned to dubcnn for the exclusive on that. Remember the last update also made you aware that the album will come packaged with a movie! Not a low budget feature but a high quality movie release produced by The Cine Theives and starring Bigg Steele, Hi-C, Dirty Birdy, Big Syke & Coolwadda; the movie is titled "Dollas & Sense."

Here is the new track; "Warrior", download it, listen to it and please stop in the ever expanding dubcnn community to let us know your thoughts. Big Steele also wanted you all to know that Power 106 is currently playing the single from the album "Take Yo Time" and he urges you to make a quick call and request it; 818-845-1059.

Bigg Steele - Warrior

Don't forget that Bigg Steele is working with Dubcnn on a major project, a compilation containing exclusive songs from various West Coast artists, both new and established so stay tuned for more news on that soon.

Their brand new album titled "Get That Paper" drops this week and features a track called Hey Ma featuring Bun B, which happens to be the albums only guest artist.

Bone Thugs n Harmony have made a reggaeton type song for the soundtrack of motion picture "Take The Lead." It's the lead single from the soundtrack and hears BTNH rap over crazy club production from Swizz Beats. Here is the song called Take The Lead (Wanna Ride) which features vocals from Drag On.

To finish things off with a bang we have a track from Crooked I's new mixtape "Young Boss Music Vol 2." Let us assure you that the entire mixtape is good enough to be an album; believe the hype. It's not your regular mixtape because it includes original beats by Dynasty Producers Jim Gittum and Komplex. If the mixtape is this good we here at dubcnn wonder how good the actual album will be. Enjoy the track from the album Creased Khaki Flow courtesy of dubcnn.

As ever we feature "Weekend Audio" to remind you of what new material is out and urge you all to go out and buy the albums and mixtapes if you are feeling any of the tracks!

news The Coup "Pick A Bigger Weapon" - March 24, 2006 By : Adon

The Coup's new album, "Pick a Bigger Weapon", kicks off with a classic Boots Riley line: "I'm a walking contradiction/Like bullets and love mixin'…". And the album just gets better from there. Boots Riley was in Vancouver hosting the first in a series of listening parties for the new album last night. The new album is backed by an all star band including Audioslave's Tom Morello, Dwayne Wiggins, and veterans of Parliament-Funkadelic, the Gap Band, Toni! Tony! Toné!, Jesse Johnson, and Frankie Beverly and Maze. The band has cooked up some songs reminiscent of "Dirty Mind"-era Prince, late-80s Too Short, and they even get into some hyphy.

The album features an R&B song entitled "BabyLet’sHaveABabyBeforeBushDoSomethin’Crazy", performed by Silk E. The title is pretty much self explanatory. And it's easy to see that Boots isn't happy with the ways of this administration. That's why Boots has also teamed up with the activist organization, Music For America for the listening party tour.

As he's travelling around the country, he'll be urging young people to get involved in the political process. Attendees will be able to register to vote and opt-out forms will be available for high-schoolers, allowing them to opt-out of an obscure provision of the No Child Left Behind Act that forces public schools to supply high school students' names and private contact information to military recruiters.

“Public schools can't, out of one side of their mouth, tell students that they want them to have a bright future after high school and out of the other side of their mouth tell them that it's okay for them to go kill and die for a profit-making war machine,” says Boots on military recruitment. “That's why I support the "Opt Out" campaign promoted by Music for America. I think conscientious school administrators should choose not to release student's personal information to military recruiters."

Boots and MFA volunteers will also be educating the audience with minimum wage “issue cards” containing facts and actions to take. "Putting music into action is something that both The Coup and Music for America are all about,” says Riley, “so it's only fitting that we work together in this way. What we really need are militant unions at fast food places and chain retail stores, but until then, we need to substantially raise the minimum wage because people are struggling, not only in their every day existence, but to make enough to pay for gas and parking to get to work in the first place."

Below we have a tracklisting as well as two tracks to download:

01. Bullets And Love (Introduction)
02. We Are The Ones
03. Laugh/Love/Fuck
04. My Favorite Mutiny featuring Black Thought & Talib Kweli
05. I Just Wanna Lay Around All Day In Bed With You

14. Tiffany Hall
15. BabyLet’sHaveABabyBeforeBushDo Somethin’Crazy (feat. Silk E)

news Daz Dillinger Is So So Gangsta! - March 21, 2006 By : Inspire

The West Coast asked for it, and as time grows closer we finally get to see super producer, Daz Dillinger back in the spotlight; this time for his new eagerly awaited solo album, “So So Gangsta”. The album, which boasts an array of features from such people as Jermaine Dupri is set to drop on July 18th 2006 on So So Def / Virgin Records.

So So Gangsta brings a whole new sound to the already established Daz Dillinger discography, with hit singles such as “All I Need” and
It’s My Thang”, featuring long-time friend and fellow Dogg Pound Gangsta, Kurupt. The video for “It’s My Thang” is due to be shot in April.

As explained by Daz himself, the album is not only going to be for the gangsters out there, it is also for people who want to hear the truth about the streets, not the watered down version that is heard in a lot of hip-hop today.

Daz Dillinger still manages to bring the heat a decade after his debut appearance, with the on-going hype over the new project, Daz hasn’t just limited himself to West Coast radio stations, in fact the East Coast is also giving “All I Need” tremendous airplay.

So let me refresh you just one more time on the release date, July 18th 2006. Make sure you go and cop “So So Gangsta” and support the West Coast, this is going to be certified heat!

On top of that, we have some tight promo pictures of Daz courtesy of Marlene Meraz from Virgin Records, enjoy!

news Dilated Peoples Diary Entry #1 - Rakaa From The Road - March 17, 2006 By : Rud

Dubcnn has been provided with access to Dilated Peoples Diary Entries while they are currently on the road promoting the new album; "20/20" which is in stores now. They are currently in New York doing shows with tour-mates Defari & Little Brother. Here is an excert from Rakaa's road diary;

"3/16/06 - We are now in New York. SOB's went off last night and we're ready to blaze it again tonight. The shows have either been sold out or very close and the crowds have been crazy. Defari (with DJ Mishaps) and Little Brother are more than opening groups, they are 2/3 of an incredible tour experience.

Dilated may go on last and have top billing, but we are all destroying these venues together. This is pure party rocking veteran business and we are out doing it like we're supposed to. We've been selling records and rocking tours before our present labels and will continue to share our gift whether they are involved or not. Baltimore is next, then Philly before we head South. Always Bigger and Better. Rakaa / Dilated Peoples / Expansion Team / Soundsystem / J Dilla R.I.P.

news Xzibit Coming "Full Circle" In The Summer - March 16, 2006 By : Rud

Xzibit has spoken with MTV about his current musical ambitions for this year and announces his sixth solo album due out in the Summer. Over the past decade he has released been a part of nine films, released five albums and been the host of one of MTV's most successful shows; "Pimp My Ride" however 2006 is the year he plans to come "Full Circle", an indication perhaps of the lyrical content and sound of the new LP? Perhaps.

The 32-year-old rapper told MTV; "I've been making records [for so long], so to be able to do what I love and do it well, I gotta take it back to what I love.

My perspective has definitely changed [over the years], the things I used to say when I was 18, 19 or 20 aren't the things I'm feeling now, you know? I've definitely grown a lot as an individual, as a man, and as a father, and that perspective needs to be shared and put out there.

"I think having powerful music that says something is a must for me [now], so that's what I plan to do with this record: shed some light on the growth that I've had so hopefully someone can relate and feel me."

Xzibit is playing his cards close to his chest about the new record refusing to divulge details about the producers he's working with or who he might be rhyming alongside in the recording booth however he has revealed that there will be 17 tracks on it when it drops in August. When asked about his first single he said; "Watch the mixtape circuit, there's so many ways for music to get out nowadays that the traditional way of just dropping a single before the record is out is obsolete."

The MC-turned-actor spoke to MTV at the "Tinseltown to Gotham" event in Beverly Hills where he was amongst a handful of performers that included Tyrese, Macy Gray and Lauryn Hill, all honored for accomplishing what few of their contemporaries could: successfully crossing over into a mix of entertainment genres, including film, television and music; on the accolade Xzibit said; "It feels good to be able to go from music to film and have a good transition and be given the opportunities I've been given, the roles I've had have worked out great for me, and tonight is just another stepping stone in the right direction."

When asked about the hit show "Pimp My Ride" X attributes much of his breakout success and crossover appeal to the show which enabled him to show a different, more personable side of him; "That show really exposed a side of my personality you don't get to see on rap videos or read [about] in magazines, there were decision-makers that watched that show, and the personality was there for them, they gave me different chances and it just worked."

Look for dubcnn to present more news on this project over the coming months.

news People Under The Stairs Return With "Stepfather" - March 15, 2006 By : Rud

Underground Stand-Up; the duo who are devoted to jazzy samples, danceable beats, intricate rhyme skills and laid-back humor are back, westcoast please open the door once again to the People Under the Stairs.

The group who formed when Mike Turner (Double K) and Chris Portugal (Thes One) met on the fringe of L.A.'s late-'90s hip-hop underground. They came together to release their 1998 acclaimed debut album "The Next Step" and followed it up in 2000 with "Question in the Form of an Answer."

With the acclaim and underground success they toured with De La Soul and took their road experiences and brought it to the studio to record their next album. The final results became apparent in the summer of 2002 under the album name O.S.T. This release received acclaim worldwide and as such has sold over 35,000 copies to date bringing People Under the Stairs to the forefront of the underground and its follow-up album, "Or Stay Tuned..." complemented this release and allowed the group to headline nation-wide tours.

Known for serving up playful back-and-forth rhymes set to vinyl-centric production, Thes One and Double K are now back with Stepfather and had this to say about the release: "People are really going to be surprised by this album, we’re flipping the script on this one, coming with an extremely progressive approach. We study a lot of music theory and classic material, and this album reflects that. Even when we did the old school tracks on the album, we still tried to push the envelope with vocal settings and drum patterns," explained Thes One.

Using obscure vintage drum machines and running mic pre-amps to the point of intentional distortion, PUTS created a sonic kaleidoscope of textured and layered beats which are complimented by their refreshingly cool narratives of the L.A. Hip Hop life. A better description of Stepfather might be that of a Hip Hop history book on tape. From the old school beats with those classic SP 1200 drums and rich Hammond organ keys to new school progressive tracks with live guitar and bass, "Stepfather" is by far PUTS’s most intricate and musically advanced album.

It can be seen on the album that the group are offering a much more personal perspective into the lives of Thes One and Double K. On the track “Days Like This,” Double K reflects on his modest upbringing and the struggles that his mother endured in order to provide for the family, while Thes One offers a personal thanks to his father who labored has a fruit field worker so that his son may live a better life. On “Reflections,” Double K and Thes One lament in vivid detail their recognition of the moral vacuum that plagues today’s society. From these heavy hearted songs to the light and head nodding barbecue anthems such as “Jamboree pt. 1”, Thes One and Double K explore the spectrum of human emotions and offer their most personal music to date.

With an amazing live show and a loyal fan base hungry for their next album, People Under The Stairs"Stepfather" will undoubtedly be one of Hip Hop’s biggest releases of 2006! "Stepfather" features guest appearances from legendary Funkadelic and Parliament member George Clinton, Monty Stark (Stark Reality), and Kat of Crown City Rockers. The album will also included a bonus documentary-style DVD that includes show footage and a short film.

As ever dubcnn has been given some new audio from the release to share with you and we urge you to take a listen, both fans and new listeners alike, People Under The Stairs are unique and have an ear for production and a melodic flow that I guarentee will get you hooked! Enjoy the audio and let us know your thoughts via the dubcnn community.

news Cash Dniro Exposes "True Lies" Of L.A. Living - March 15, 2006 By : Rud

"I spit for South Central and speak for the ghetto. From my hood to your hood we all go through similar things and im hear to report what's real for the real." Words from the voice of South Central Los Angeles; Cash Dniro.

Why that name? Well it combines the birthname of Mohammed Ali (Cassius) & the surname of the actor Robert De Niro in shortened format; the reasoning, Cash Dniro is a combination of both Power and Skill. Raised in the 80's in South Central he was growing up in the crack era of Los Angeles. In the late 80's he related to life through music and opted that in later life it would be an avenue he could vent his thoughts through.

We have been brought to the attention of Cash Dniro and have been impressed by his flow and his style, when you hear the tracks below the lyrics and the tone of his voice will stick with you. He is currently working on new material this year however he already as a full album available for free download on his Soundclick page. news NV Have "Cruel Intentions" For The Streets - March 12, 2006 By : Rud

For our readers who make regular visits to dubcnn NV will be a name they will be familiar with, for those who arent you can check out our October 2005 Archive (October 18th & 20th). Now as a little refresher; NV are duo consisting of Absolute and Dolla, two young men who have grown up in L.A. and come together to form the collective NV. Last year we released information and let you hear music from a mixtape they had just released called "Go Hard or Go Home" which featured incredible production from Goldeneye, THX, J Classic, Ink & Ric Rude as well as appearances from west coast emcees Badd Lucc & J-Do and down south recent Warren G collaborator Frank Lee White

Well as ever dubcnn was NV's first port of call when they wanted to release new music and information on their street album which is set to be titled; "Cruel Intentions." The record is currently having the finishing touches applied but what we have heard thus far and the music we have to showcase today outlines something the westcoast is often missing - a feel good, up-tempo record with obvious commerical appeal.

The album will include production from J-Classic, 1500 Or Nothing, THX and more as well as a welcome appearance from dubcnn featured and heavily acclaimed; Bad Lucc. NV have been grinding hard this year and it has paid off with opportunities flooding in, they have recently shared the stage with Lil Wayne & recent Oscar winners Three Six Mafia.

The group has many shows planned this year from L.A. to North Carolina and we urge people to check them out when they drop in your area, to stay updated visit NV's MySpace Page. Anyone in Hollywood needs to roll to the Shinin' Event at The Larchmont on March 18th, the event is hosted by StayFresh Entertainment to promote NV's single; "Shinin'" - the track we have for download below!

news Mike T & MC Eiht Reunite On "Affiliated" - March 10, 2006 By : Rud

As we have been reporting, MC Eiht is slated to release his new solo album "Affiliated" this spring. We revealed recently that Eiht had just signed a distribution deal for his record label, West Music, Inc. in a joint venture with Paid In Full/Koch.

The upcoming album is slated for an April 4th release and we have exclusively received word that the album will feature 2 tracks with the legendary scratching of Comptons Most Wanted’s Mike T, who ripped on Eiht’s gangsta melodies including; "2 Comptons MF'z" and "Which Way Iz Up."

MC Eiht recently spoke on the new deal; "The promotion will be better, the distribution is better, the label that I have the joint venture with this time is more professional than what was happening with my other independent projects. They don't hesitate to get things done."

The album's first single is "Say Nothing/Comptons Back." produced by Raw Steel. In addition to the Compton rap legend, the song also features Comptons Most Wanted's Chill and Bam, along with King T, who rides shotgun. We exclusively premiered this song back in August, courtesy of King T, as it's also featured on King T's latest project "The Boss Up Mixtape". This is the track that Julio G recently refered to on KDay - shouts to Julio G!

If you missed our world premiere of the first single last year, here is the song again, "Say Nothing/Comptons Back".

news The Return Of Conway! - March 9, 2006 By : Lil Jay

It seemed as if Conway disappeared just as fast as he entered the rap game. He went from being a homeless young man with a dream, to a rap artist with a record deal on Motown/Universal, to getting dropped and going back to the struggle. In the chaotic and ever changing music industry, the executive that signed Conway left Universal and he was dropped before his album was released.

Conway has been off the radar since 2004, the year of his big radio hit "The Nutcracker".

The single would go on to be a top request on Los Angeles and San Diego radio stations. Now, 2 years later, the 23 year old rapper is ready to take the West and music scene as a whole by storm again. He is still a free agent, but a new record deal is not too far away, as many executives have enquired.

As Conway told Dubcnn: "It was a cool drop and there was no bad blood. At the end of the day it's still a business, I dealt with the trials and tribulations of it. Now I got these options with these other labels, I'll hit them all over the head and see what they wanna do. I got my foot in the door, people know me opposed to somebody who's just coming off the street."

Conway will officially be back for the first time with his album "History In The Making". He teamed up with rising producer Sean Konnery, who is taking care of Conway's new sound. But before he drops his long awaited debut album, Conway is lacing the streets with a 25 song mixtape called "Gramercy Gumbo".

Dubcnn got some exclusive music from the upcoming mixtape. First off we got the banger "Ba Dunk", and the laid back "I Stay High". Both songs were produced by Sean Konnery. Hit the links below to check out what Conway has to offer in 2006!

news Balance Is "Young & Restless" [News & Audio] - March 7, 2006 By : Nima

That's right. The Bay Area has been getting lots of airtime on TV and radio stations, aswell as of course the online publications. With E-40 on the forefront with his hit single "Tell Me When To Go", the Bay is slowly but surely getting into the spotlight. The Yay is going Hyphy, and ya'll better get with it!

A significant factor in the Bay Area movement, Balance has been on his grind for years, proving he's got what it takes to make it. After several mixtapes, the Oakland spitter is set to release his debut solo album "Young & Restless" on March 21st through his independent label Ayinde Music, with distribution being handled by SMC/Fontana.

As it is our habit here at dubcnn, we got some exclusives in store for ya'll. We caught up with Balance briefly, and he told us a little bit about the record. In addition to that, I also have the official cover, tracklisting, and two tracks for ya'll. We had brought ya'll the edited radio version of the street singles "Gotta Get It" and "It Is What It Is" (ft. E-A Ski) a few months ago, Balance allowd us to leak the unedited album versions aswell, so make sure you grab that.

"I feel like this is my best work to date. "Young & Restless" is the definition of West Coast Hip-Hop. I got 14 slammin' tracks, it took me 3 years to finish this album, and I feel like this is the time.", Balance boasts about his debut.

Balance has always worked heavily with the beat-monsters E-A Ski & CMT. The duo has been producing for Balance from the jump, and they got 3 tracks on "Young & Restless". When asked about the work with Ski, Balance had nothing but positive comments, "Working with Ski was dope, he's one of the best producers I've ever worked with. For one, his beats touch the street, and they are very professional. When you do a track with E-A Ski & CMT, you know you're gonna have a great opportunity to shocase your skills.".

Other producers include Left, Trackademicks, Tha Productz, Seam, Erk Tha Jerk, Shonuff and more. Although most of the CD is Balance rapping solo, he reached out to a couple homies to rap on the CD. Casual, Chamillionaire, Frontline, Seam Erk Tha Jerk, Aristotle & E-A Ski all make an appearance.

If you click on the CD cover above, you can view it in full size. You'll notice Balance is sporting a Eazy-E shirt. "The Eazy-E shirt was personal. Eazy was my favorite rapper comin' up. I had teh chance to meet him once at a record store in the bay, and he was the coolest dude. I was hurt when he passed, and the shirt was a tribute to my favorite rapper, basically", Balance said. Eazy has always been looked up to by young business minds. "Eazy represented a CEO's mind, and an innovative artist. That's what I wanna be".

Sounds like Balance got his mind right, The album should be a breathe of fresh air. Check out the preview tracks "Gotta Get It", "Rise Up" and "It Is What It Is" below, by clicking on the highlighted links in the tracklisting. news Roscoe Still "Loves Cali" On New Album [News & Audio] - March 6, 2006 By : Nima

Yes sir! Young Roscoe Tobasco aka Scodie Mac aka the little brother of a monster IS BACK!. After a long absence and a rough time (Scoe was involved in a near-fatal car crash last year), Roscoe hit up dubcnn to let the world know that he's been locked in the studio workin' his ass off and is still one of the top forces of this West Coast Movement.
He recently wrapped up his upcoming solo album, "I Love Cali". Being the name of his first hit, it was only right he came back with that. The album was entirely produced by Fingazz, and is coming out early May through West Coast Customs/Street Light Entertainment and is distributed through Fontana/
Universal Records, executive produced by Roscoe & Fingazz.

Here's a drop Roscoe did for dubcnn where he speaks on the album:

Roscoe - Dubcnn Drop / Album Info

The record is mostly Scodie rapping solo, but has a few guest spots including Blaqtoven, Y.A. & Diamonique.

But if you thought this is all Roscoe has lined up, you're aallll wrong. Besides Y.A. and his group the G-Hood Fellas, Roscoe also has a group from Philadelphia called The Armory. "I've kept them sepparated from the stuff I've been doing, cause they from Philly, but be on the lookout for The Armory, cause we're gonna be coming hard. That's gonna be dropping on H.O.C./Scodie Mac Records", Scodie said about the group.

He got some more though. "I got another solo album I'm working on that's gonna be executive produced by Kurupt & Scott Storch, that's coming through West Coast Customs/Scodie Mac/Scott Storch Productions. That ones gonna be real big, he's even talking about bringing it to Dr. Dre. We'll see what happen, but me and Scotty have been pumping out some heat.".

Also, if ya'll remember right, in our interview with Kurupt & Daz, Kurupt mentioned that Roscoe had been workin heavily with Bad Azz. Wel.. it's true: "Me and Bad Azz got whole album! It's called "Get A Cup", and it features all of my crew, Y.A., the G-Hood Fellas, and all of Bad Azz crew the Low Lifes.. We got some other cats like RBX, Kokane on there aswell, it's some real fly shit.".

When asked about his label situation, Roscoe said "I feel good right now. I'm off Priority, Kurupt is off Antra, we're both doing our thing. I got H.O.C. and my publishing Scodie Mac.. The C.E.O. of the label is Tom Barnes, he gave me the opportunity to be the president of the Urban department. Cause we're not just gonna do rap, we got alot of different projects. I'm working with a new R&B talent called Nire, she's crazy. She sings like a hummingbird, be on the lookout for her, she's the next big thing."

Well it looks like Roscoe has alot on his plate! Let's wrap it up: "I Love Cali", Roscoe solo coming in May. Y.A. album, another solo backed by Kurupt/Scott Storch, Roscoe & Bad Azz - "Get A Cup", and The Armory out of Philly.

After such a long absence, it's good to see Scodie has his mind back right and is focusing on positive thangs. "It's a beautiful thang man, everybody is back together, everybody let it go and everybody loves each other", Roscoe said about the Re-United Dogg Pound. "D.P.G.C. 2006, not for play! We fuck with everybody... G-Unit, Game, whoever! Man, we've already done been to war! While everybody was singin' about bitches and money, Kurupt was at war! But we off that now. Snoopy got us on chill, Nate got us doin' positive, we makin' money, and all you're gonna see is positivity.".

Sounds crazy, but it's true! This is just the beginning. As always, dubcnn is gonna be on top of the news, so keep it locked right here!

And the Doc did not disappoint his fans, as he measured up to his hype by bringing a fresh project to West Coast Hip Hop. “The Odor” is a project with a lot of substance and diversity, and his unique style is one of the reasons this MC is being looked at one of the biggest talents on the Left Coast underground scene.

“The Odor” contains 22 songs (plus 4 Skits by Gangsta Granny) which he recorded during different stages in his career. Those stages showcase his different mindstates, like his very first radio hit “Whats Crackalackin” (early Stank fans remember that one from back in 2002) which got people’s attention. The song was followed by the radio hit “Put The Stank In It” featuring Dub C, which was the song that got him his deal at MCA Records. Also featured on the project is the banger “Thatz How We Diznuzit” featuring Dirty Birdy, which we recently featured as the exclusive Dubcnn Throwback Joint.

Dubcnn got one last audio preview from “The Odor”. These are the tracks “Who Want It”, along with “Thatz How We Diznuzit” (both produced by Stank).

Below is the complete tracklisting along with the writing and production credits. As you can see, Stank handled the majority of the production with Crackajack, Dirty Birdy, Big Tank, Fingazz helping him out on a couple tracks. On the guest appearances he’s joined by Sly Boogy, Dirty Birdy, W.C., Funcsta Func, and others.

news Atmosphere and Brother Ali Concert Footage! - March 3, 2006 By : Yash

Dubcnn.com hooked up with Hoodstars.net February 4th, 2006 to attent a show by Atmosphere in The Netherlands. Support act of the evening was Rhymesayers label mate Brother Ali.

Brother Ali introduced himself by saying “Ladies and gentleman, my name is Brother Ali, I’m from Minneapolis, Minnesota and I believe that I am possibly the sexiest motherfucker that ever lived.” The man has a lot of interaction with the crowd and kicks jokes from time to time. Ali started off the evening with a couple of freestyles and the rest of the 20 minute show he did some out of his own catalogue.

Over to the main act of the evening: Atmosphere. Thanks to a great performance from his “Big Bad Brother Ali” rapper Slug didn’t need to do a whole lot to get everyone in the mood. “What’s it been? About 2 years? Who was here last time we was here? Who wasn’t here last time we was here? Who has never seen us before? It’s a beautiful thing.” With songs like "Always Coming Back Home To You", "Party For The Fight To Write", "God Loves Ugly", "Poor Me Another" and "Between The Lines" the vibe of the performance was real good.

Every Atmosphere member got their own little solo and at the end of the 45 minutes show there was a little surprise! While everyone thought the show was over, Atmosphere came back on stage with Brother Ali! They performed two songs together and went off, but enough of that! Below you can check out some of the footage from the show and judge yourself!

Click here to watch the show!

Brother Ali gave Dubcnn a shoutout watch it by clicking here

news Omar Cruz, DJ Skee & Mister Cartoon Have "Last Laugh" - March 2, 2006 By : Rud

DJ Skee is back alongside Mister Cartoon to present the third installment of the official "Joker Brand Mixtape," this time hosted by none other than the West Coast's next mega-star, and dubcnn regular Omar Cruz - FKA Blunts LLA. The latest mixtape, entitled "Who Has The Last Laugh Now," replaces the extremely successful "Joker Brand - Tears Of A Clown" line and brings a new twist to the series, this time the mixtapes integrate various Hip-Hop tracks with the original sample that each song was created from. For example, you can hear Bootsy Collin's (Parliament) "Whats A Telephone Bill" mixed into 2Pac's classic "Str8 Ballin" and The Isley Brothers "Footsteps In The Dark" mixed with its classic Hip-Hop counterpart; Ice Cube's "Today Was A Good Day."

Due to the amount of work done to put this compilation together and DJ Skee's impressive record collection, there is no tracklisting for the CD which features of 30 tracks. As Omar Cruz states on the CD: "Either you know, or you don't!"

DJ Skee talks further on the release stating: "The mixtape has a ton of uncredited samples in it, ranging from everyone from the P Funk movement to Barbara Streisand - I mean even A&R's who worked on some of these records didn't even know what the original sample was - this CD is truly an example of diggin' in tha crates."

The mixtape was made available last week exclusively at the Joker Brand booth in Las Vegas, the limited first edition of 10,000 copies became out of stock within 2 days. Everyone else will half to stay tuned for the official version dropping in the streets within the next few weeks.

As ever we have some audio from the release for you to enjoy, thanks to DJ Skee for allowing us to present the media below. The two tracks are the afforementioned Ice Cube & 2 Pac sample examples from the mixtape.

Boosty Collins Vs Tupac - Str8 Ballin (Sample: "Whats A Telephone Bill")
Isley Brothers Vs Ice Cube - Today Was A Good Day (Sample: Footsteps In The Dark)

Enjoy the tracks, and if you like what you hear, make sure to click onto DJ Skee.com and lookout for his online store coming soon to order the mixtape.
