news Exclusive: Blunts L.L.A. - I'm Ruthless (Audio) - August 30, 2005 By : SGV

"I'm Ruthless, I Ain't Talkin' Bout The Label, I'm A Monster Of Rap, I Was Made For Turntables"

Blunts L.L.A. is back in the studio cookin' up more of that crack music for ya'll. I was able to get my hands on a new song that he just recorded. This is not the full version, you can expect that on the his up coming Mixtape, following up his "City Of Gods" Mixtape that was released a few months ago. You should have your copy already, but in case you've came down with a severe case of narcolepsy, pick up City Of Gods at the RapTalk.net Store!

And, don't forget, Blunts will be live this Friday at Club Maya in Rosarito, Mexico with Suga Free. Join DubCNN and BYI!

Check out the Front Of The Flyer and Back Of The Flyer

Now onto the song! Tentatively titled "I'm Ruthless," Blunts spits:

"This For The Gusto / For The Mixtapes, A Must Flow / Much Respect Given, Rest In Peace The Homie Justo!"

Indeed, Rest In Peace to the true Mixtape King, Justo Faison. With the Screw-esque voice sample of Game and the gritty backdrop prodvided by Javie Lopez, Blunts provides the perfect contrast as he reps the "City of Gods" to the fullest.

Enough talking, check it out:

news Charlie, Last Name Wilson - August 30, 2005 By : Rud

Charlie Wilson is a name that stands out as one of the most influential artists in the history of R&B music. news Snoop & Bing : "Snoop Dogg Board Company" - August 26, 2005 By : Rud

Snoop Dogg and his younger brother Bing are preparing to release a new line of skateboards, "Snoop Skateboards," under the enterprise, "Snoop Dogg Board Company." The boards are to be available through Pentagon Distribution (the distributor for Academy Snowboards, Kampus Wakeskates and shoes, and CD Wakeboard Bindings) and will see the launch of a complete line of skateboarding products, including long and short skateboards, accessories, and backpacks. The decks will be manufactured with a standard of high quality, but will have competitive prices.

"Bing Worthington, Snoop Dogg’s brother, came to us with a vision of bridging these two industries together because there is already so much crossover between skateboarding and the rap/hiphop market," says Duane Pacha, President of Pentagon Distribution. Bing explained "We are excited to work with the Pentagon group. These guys are definite hustlers in this business. We are down with skateboarding and want to get more music fans into skateboarding. Both of these should be part of everyone’s lifestyle."

news Magnificent Bout His Cash Prod. Chops (Audio) - August 26, 2005 By : SGV

"Mike Jones be runnin' game and Magnificent 'bout his cash!" - Paul Wall from "Still Tippin'"

I'm sure you heard the line. You may or may not have known who Magno aka Magnificent was at that time. But, you'll find out now. He recorded "First Round Draft Picks" with Mike Jones, which was referenced to in "Still Tippin'" as well. Now that his crew is all over BET and MTV, it's Magno's turn.

"When Paul Wall said that, I swear he never lie / All I do is rhyme a little, and my cheddar rise / You seen "Still Tippin'," that wasn't prop money / That was on the grind, CD's on the block money"

Taking a page from Mike Jones ("Back Then") and Paul Wall ("Goin' Nuts"), he uses a line from the SwishaHouse summer anthem for his latest song. Getting with Philly's Chops, Magno knocked out the banger "Magnificent Bout His Cash" with the Screwed up Paul Wall sample for the hook.

Magno - Magnificent Bout His Cash (Prod. Chops)

"I can't knock the hustle, get it how you live! / No matter what it is, keep food behind ya ribs!"

It gets no realer! Shouts to Hustle Fam!

news DJ Quik - Black Mercedes (ft. Nate Dogg) [Audio] - August 25, 2005 By : Nima

DJ Quik is coming back hard on September 13th with his latest studio album "Trauma". After he recently dropped "Trauma: The Mixtape" recently with some new joints, he's been buzzing on the radio with "Fandango" ft. B-Real, "Ladies & Thugs" ft. Wycles Jean and now his latest track is "Black Mercedes" and features Nate Dogg.

Personally I have to say I was starting to get tired of Nate Dogg's repetitive hooks as of late, but he really surprised me with this one. One of Nate's best performances in a long time, this song is an undeniable banger. It's being hailed as an instant classic on message boards, judge for yourself by listening to it below:

news Introducing : Soul Shack - A New Breed - August 23, 2005 By : Rud

"Quit acting like Ray Liotta, Your no goodfella, not one iota, your more like a lil bottle o' soda, kinda fizzy when your open, kinda flat when its over".

Could Dusty Roze have put it any better? Some food for thought from this animated MC im about to introduce you to as part of the collective that is, Soul Shack. Soul Shack is a Multi-National, Multi-Cultural crew based out of Long Beach, California.

The group consists of Tone Blair, NDO, Fabmal, Dusty Roze & Chad Bishop. The producers of the group, Tone Blair & NDO, are Hispanic & Native American respectively and they both hail from Long Beach. Fabmal comes from Lynwood and brings a street concious flow while Dusty Roze, as i mentioned earlier, brings that animated style originally from West Palm Beach Florida. Chad Bishop got some old school sounds for you and is originally from Alabama.

Im here today to introduce you to their music and try to gather some support for a group that most definitely goes against the grain of what typifies most Westcoast Hip-Hop, and to be honest i know many of you will feel they are a breath of fresh air in a sometimes frustrating cycle of music. With a new, creative and fresh style i know some will love and some will hate, but at least try to appreciate the angle at which they approach the scene. We have the single for download along with the video for the "Ain't No Gangsta" track which i hope you will listen to and spread around, radio stations and DJ's feel free to pick this up. Tone spoke with dubcnn and said : "We defy the stereo typical westcoast hip-hop, and for that matter hip-hop worldwide. We're not caught up trying to mimic others, we're just ourselves. We are all real down to earth people, with good vibes, good music and a love for hip-hop and all music."

So check below for the "Ain't No Gangsta" single and video and look out for more audio coming soon such as "Double Deez", a solid party anthem and a track called which speaks of the desire at times to just take to the sky and escape the realities of life. There is some banging production on this release which people of all ages and backgrounds will enjoy mixed with melodic sounds and emotional and deep lyrics.

news Crooked I - Boom Boom Clap [Video Download] - August 19, 2005 By : Nima

Crooked I's new video to his street single "Boom Boom Clap" is finally out and will hopefully be getting some airplay. After his first video "Still Tha Row" didn't make much noise, the Young Boss is making another attempt at breaking through to the mainstream crowd.

Ya'll know this song by now, very catchy cut. The video is pretty simple, black and white, with Crooked I, his Dynasty crew and some fine ladies. Check out "Boom Boom Clap"'s video below in .wmv format (10mb) below:

In related news, Crooked's debut album "B.O.S.S. Music" will most likely not be dropping until early next year. In the meanwhile, he will be releasing his DVD this fall. Stay tuned for more news on that.

news Kurupt - Against The Grain In Stores Tuesday! - August 19, 2005 By : Nima

As you can see on the banners above and to your right, Kurupt's long awaited "Against The Grain" is actually dropping on Death Row Records this Tuesday, August 23rd. With virtually no promotion, no real single or a video, it is kind of sad to see the album coming out with no mainstream attention.

The street single is "Homeboys", featuring 2Pac and Eastwood. To me, this song is a certified banger. Eventhough it uses an old Pac verse, it seems to just fit perfectly here, and both Kurupt and East come correct.

news Sen Dog & Mellow Man Ace Audio/Video Update - August 11, 2005 By : SGV

Back in the late 80's, Mellow Man Ace blazed the game with his blingual Classic hit "Mentirosa." A few years later, his brother, Sen Dog, along with B-Real and DJ Muggs revolutionized Hip Hop with their Dark sound and weed induced rhymes. Since then, Sen and Mellow have led very different careers.

Sen has went to bask in the success of Cypress Hill, as well as his ventures with rock group SX-10. Mellow has dropped a string on Independent albums and has continued doing shows on the regular. But now, Cypress is on the rocks themselves... Muggs is doing his Mash Up Radio thing very heavy, B-Real is doing the solo thing, as is Sen.

Now Senen and Ulpiano Reyes, better known as the Reyes Bros. are ready to drop their heat together as a duo. This is the first real album they've recorded together. Dropping on Sen's Latin Thug Records, their album is entitled "Ghetto Therapy." Sen and Mellow are bringing the heat and working with some of the hottest Producers in the game. Look for it around the first quarter of 06.

Staying ahead of the game, I spoke with Sen Dog and Mellow outside of a concert a little while ago. It was while they were mixing down the album. So some of the info, the release date and album title, can only be found on the front page and is not stated in the video. Nonetheless, listen to Sen Dog and Mellow Man Ace explain their upcoming album as they drop names like Warren G, Snoop Dogg, B-Real and Nate Dogg as contributers to the album:

news Dj Quik Talks about his "Trauma" Mixtape - August 8, 2005 By : Adon

Mtv.com hooked up with DJ Quik to talk breifly about his Trauma Mixtape. Here's the article:

DJ Quik is readying his new LP, Trauma, and put this mixtape out as a warmup. Along with the new tracks, Quik mixed in some of his greatest hits, like "Tonight" and "Pitch in on a Party."

"I'm 14 years in the game," Quik said. "There's some kids that weren't even born when my first album came out. I wanted to draw a timeline between my old stuff and my new stuff and bridge it to where there's a level of continuity."

Quik describes some of the songs that appear on the mixtape ...

Joints To Check For

"Fandango" featuring B-Real. "It was like watching Michael Jordan play," he said about working with the leader of Cypress Hill. "Having a ticket to a Chicago Bulls game, when Jordan was playing with the Bulls. Watching him in his zone when he had 40-45 points. Dude is a perfectionist."

Quik said his new record has nothing to do with the famous Internet movie Web site. "Fandango was around before the Internet. Fandango is a Spanish-American dance. It's a lively tempo dance. It's almost like the tango. That's what it says in the Merriam-Webster [dictionary]. The second entry is [defined as] 'tomfoolery.' That's what it says in the dictionary, that's what I go by. I remember Queen saying it too on 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' When I was little I never understood what they meant by 'do the fandango.' "

"Does the Good Life Exist" with Shawn Anthony. "I was just venting," Quik said of the song. "I was talking about some people that pissed me off a little bit. The funny thing about that record is that people liked it, but they thought I was taking a shot at Aaliyah at the beginning by saying 'I feel like that plane in the Bahamas.'

"But before I did the record I went to the Bahamas to be a part of that salt water and relax. Jet ski," he added. "I came back to New York and recorded that record. We had an issue with the plane. The baggage-claim dude was flirting with my girl and she checked him. I wasn't taking a shot at Aaliyah, but I didn't want to change the line because I lived it. It was just wordplay. I was shouting out Mausberg [on another line in the song] too because I miss him. Him being dead is a great injustice to hip-hop because I feel he was next."

"Doughe." The Compton, California, legend said that this record is dedicated to Mixmaster Spade and Quik's niece, who both died this year.

"I grew up with my niece, she was 28 years old," he said. "And to see a kid in a coffin — especially to see a kid you saw when they was first born and to see them at the end of their life — it f---ed me up. It affected my breathing. F--- my psyche, it affected the way I breathe. It was like somebody took an organ away from me without my permission. She was a gorgeous kid. She was the anchor of the family, a peacemaker. So I did [the beat for the song] all in a major key. I didn't want to darken the mood. Death sucks, but I played it in all major key because it always makes you happy even though it's a death march, in a sense."

news Lee Lacocca and Snoop Dogg Team Up - August 5, 2005 By : mrtonguetwista

Former Chrysler Corp. chairman Lee Iacocca and Snoop Dogg appear together in Chrysler Group's latest ads for its employee-pricing program, a duo guaranteed to raise some eyebrows.

The 80-year-old Iacocca and Snoop Dogg, who made his name rapping about sex and marijuana, appear as golf buddies in the ad, scheduled to begin airing Saturday. Snoop Dogg wears an argyle sweater vest, while Iacocca dons a pastel plaid hat. At the end of the TV spot, Snoop Dogg says: ``If the ride is more fly, then you must buy.'' Iacocca responds: ``That's what I hear.''

Chrysler spokeswoman Suraya DaSante said the pairing isn't as odd as it seems. Snoop Dogg is a bona fide Chrysler fan who called company President and CEO Dieter Zetsche last year asking for a Chrysler 300C sedan.

``They're both total car guys,'' DaSante said.

Iacocca has filmed three other ads as part of the $75 million campaign, including one ad featuring former ``Seinfeld'' co-star Jason Alexander.

Iacocca is donating his fee to the Iacocca Foundation, which fights diabetes. Chrysler also agreed to become a sponsor of JoinLeeNow, a diabetes fund-raising effort.

Snoop Dogg also has a charity, the Snoop Youth Football League, but DaSante said she didn't know if he was donating his fee. A message was left with a spokeswoman for the rapper.

Chrysler said this week that it is indefinitely extending its incentive program, which lets consumers pay the employee price for most 2005 vehicles. The program, which began last month, had been scheduled to end Monday, but Chrysler extended it after seeing its sales jump 32 percent in July. Chrysler is part of DaimlerChrysler AG.

news Exclusive: E-A Ski - The Resume (ft. Too Short) - August 4, 2005 By : Nima

Not only do we introduce you to the newest talents out, but you know we gotta keep you updated on the OG's, the veterans, the very first ones to put it down for the West Coast.

E-A Ski is one of these veterans that has been in the game for almost 20 years, representing for Oakland, CA. Having had very bad luck with his labels, he's yet to release an official solo album. 2006 could be his year though. After being pushed back for years, his highly anticipated album "Apply Pressure" is now completed and scheduled for a 2006 release.

He just unleashed a new summer single to the radio stations, a collaboration with fellow Oakland legend Too $hort, called "The Resume". I caught up with E-A Ski to speak about the new single and the album.

"Basically alotta cats don't understand the history of this music thang. You got to have a resume. It's alotta cats rappin' for 2 years and they think that makes them reptable, cause they homeboys tell them they hot. Too Short and me have had hits.", he said, explaining the concept of "The Resume".

"I been here for 20 years, Short been here for 25 years! So it was only right, bein' from Oakland, to do this song. I couldn't have been valid if I didn't do somethin' with Too Short, to represent Oakland. Too Short was the one that made it hot to be able to talk about where you from. I called the record "Resume" so they would know we been holdin' it down, and anybody who hates on us gotta be out they mind. Half these cats ain't gone have careers long as us."

But the main question remains, when will we see "Apply Pressure" in stores? "It's coming in 2006 man. I got my own label, I.M.G. Music, and I'm in talks with different companies. It's gonna come out when everything is ready and I'm in a good position."

Having waited for so long, Ski has been relentlessly recording new material throughout the years. "The album I got now is a complete new record from the record I had in 2003. The vibe has changed. With time, things change, you gotta be able to reinvent yourself, that's what it's about. I've had to change the album to fit what I'm doin' right now. On the single, "Resume", I speak on cats that think that making a hit record is an accident. They think it's easy to make a "Blast If I Have To", that it's easy to make a record with Dr. Dre or Ice Cube."

"It's not hard for me to put a record out", Ski says. "It's just that I've been here a long time and I don't HAVE to put a record out. I want to have it right. I'm here to make sure my record is pushed right. I want to have the best shot and be able to bring in good sales. I'm not going to put out a record and see no return. I'm an artist and producer, so I gotta make sure everything sounds right.".

So is that time now? "Right now I'm feeling good about it. I'm feeling comfortable with my situation. The album is sounding good. I mean I can't distribute the record myself. I can't market a album myself. All I can do is give you my records. I need to have everything right! Just rushing an album and putting it out like that, is like throwing a new born baby in the garbage. That's unacceptable! I don't put out music just to be a rapper! I'm trying to make music to move the world. If I'm not in the right position, I don't want to do it."

On to the facts. "Apply Pressure" is entirely produced by E-A Ski and CMT, and features the likes of Ice Cube, MC Ren, Kay Slay, Too Short, Royce Da 5'9, Jae Millz, E-40, Keak Da Sneak, B-Legit, The Frontline, B.O.X. amongst others.

news Empty Pocketz - Broke Like You Mixtape (Audio) - August 4, 2005 By : Rud

Dubcnn took time out back in June to an insight on some new Westcoast talent, Empty Pocketz, the duo which includes brothers Nick & Joseph Valentine (AKA Cello & Jodamself). The feedback from you guys on the project we were hyping from these guys was tremendous and i thank you all! We're back to let you know the mixtape is out now! In this update ill drop the background on the guys again and drop the mixtape courtesy of Empty Pocketz & FortressDVD. Westcoast stand up and support this new music and drop feedback!

The group - who now reside in Los Angeles California - was born in the deserts of the South-Western hemisphere, New Mexico, Phoenix during a welfare plagued summer of 1994. Since that time the brothers have made noise throughout the South-West & Westcoast with self-budgeted 12-Inch singles : "Who Got Themotts" (1994), "Illusions"(Vestry Records 1995), "Marvelouss..@!" and the EP "Letters From The Field" in 2000

Empty Pocketz presents rhymes of reality, with a humorous-sarcastic twist presente within an original sound made for the masses. The sounds range from jazzy to grimey with Cello behind 90% of the groups production. The duo has touched the stage with the likes of Krs-1, Xzibit, Tha Alkaholiks, The Beatnuts, Das Efx, Raekwon, Pharcyde and many more. Known for their great stage presence & realistic rhymes of life, Empty Pocketz is a remedy needed in the now saturated hip hop reservoir.

We dropped information in June about the"Broke Like You" mixtape featuring Xzibit, Papa Roach, Ras Kass, Preston, Diggey Brown & Phil Da Agony. news Tyrant Da Don - Peep Game From Da Tyrant - August 2, 2005 By : Nima

Tyrant Da Don might be a name that you haven't heard too many times until now... That's bound to change though, cause I'm about to feed ya'll some shit that I KNOW ya'll gonna be banging.

This cat surprised the sh*t out of me, when my boy Deesta sent his stuff over, I was expecting some regular WestCoast Rap, but he proved me wrong. This cat got that 'fire'. While keeping the production and style West Coast to the fullest, he comes with some knowledge on the song "Cut The Grass". My personal favorite though is the track "Got That Fire". The production alone catapults this cut to the top of my playlist, and Tracy Lane's ("Kam - I Don't Think So") chorus is just something you gotta feel.

I have these two bangers for ya'll below, check out Tyrant Da Don and be on the lookout for alot more coming from this cat in near future:

Tyrant Da Don - I Got That Fire (ft. Tracy Lane)

Tyrant Da Don - Cut The Grass

Enjoy! Shouts out to Deesta!

news Bay Area's Charlie Manhattan To Drop Debut - August 2, 2005 By : Rud

From the Bay Area to Manhattan, a sonic jihad is ready to strike with the long-awaited release of the provocative debut album from Charlie Manhattan. The released titled "The Manhattan Project," named after the top-secret engineering project that developed the atom bomb is set to drop in late summer, 2005. The album will feature eighteen blazing tracks including, "War Anthem," a street hymn for those who are going through their own battles. Charlie Manhattan says : "It seems that everyone has their own war they are fighting, and there are also some political statements in the song. People in the hood who are in poverty are fighting, and if you want something, you have to keep your eyes on the prize."

A song about how people get curve balls thrown in their lives, "Ghetto Love" is about falling in love with someone who you think will be with you the rest of your life, but fate intervenes, and life takes a twist, "Do What Cha Like" is a smooth as velvet homage to doing what makes you feel good and "Me And You" samples The Turtles’ classic rock hit, "Happy Together," and is about two people who love each other, go though good times and bad times, and then come of age.

Prior to this release many of you may have heard Charlie dropping joints on Bay Area compilation albums such as "Killa Tay Presents The Murder Show Soundtrack," "11-5 Presents: Grind And Post," and "Theme Music To Drug Dealins And Killins," (which featured the likes of Young Noble of The Outlawz, Guce and Cold World Hustlers).

Born as Charles Williams, this earsplitting rhyme slinger from the Yay got his street name Charlie Manhattan from the horror flick Jason Takes Manhattan. While New York provided the backdrop to Jason’s deadly craft, the Bay View Hunters Point section of San Francisco affected Charlie’s art. Manhattan’s life has also been shadowed by an extremely tough break: throughout his entire life, his own father has been serving time in prison. Charlie’s harsh surroundings, however, convinced him to drop bombs that are creative, rather than destructive. Charlie says : "I have seen gang violence, drugs, pretty much everything. It has influenced me in my music. But since I’m a really down to earth person, I’m not segregating myself off to one section of the city or part of Cali, or one part of anything. My experiences have impacted me, through the things that I’ve seen, been around, and things that my family members have been through."

Producers on this release Laid Black Productions, comprising of Mr. Laid and Chill Black, with additional contributions made by Slo Burn of BAISS Entertainment, and one of the Bay Area’s newest female producers, L7. Featured guests include U.D.I., Pho Balo, vocalist Calita Talley, R&B singer Omari Jelani, and Charlie’s younger brother, Lil Brah.

Charlie has already played a number of live shows and here he remincices on the the late Mac Dre : "I’ve done a lot of competitions with my camp. I remember a performance, a show we did with Mac Dre that was huge, about a year and a half ago. It was real shocking when he died. He was part of the Bay Area music scene, contributing for so long. The reaction to his death really showed how important the Bay Area is to people in hiphop. It was far and wide, which meant a lot to us."

The album is slated for release late this summer by Laid Black Productions and RNB Entertainment Group, headed by EMI Music veteran Tom Cartwright and longtime Bay Area entertainment entrepreneur, Warren Foster.

This fall, fallout from The Manhattan Project will be universally heard, and will be felt by hiphop fans from Charlie’s hood to yours.

Lookout for more news and audio on this release at a later date!

news Custom Made Mixtape Download+Audio Preview - August 1, 2005 By : SGV

You may have heard of Custom Made a while ago, when one of their emcee's, Aneek, released a diss to Compton's The Game. Well these Los Angeles natives didn't let that be their only focus in this Hip Hop game. They went about their business and kept on releasing material.

They've put out two official Mixtapes, this being their third. You may have heard Street Cinema and Pillow Talk, you may not have. Both are available in their online store for a very cheap price. Today, we have Street Cinema Volume 2: Sin City for your downloading pleasure, so if you like this, feel free to cop their other Mixtapes.

Cutom Made doesn't have your typical bouncy West Coast sound, rather they spit over many laid back and dark overtone tracks. As opposed to doing the same thing as everyone else, the crew spits over a majority of Original production.

I have three songs for you to preview, if you're still not sold on these Los Angeles emcees.

Here's a song with Aneek and Bluf called "Wrong Turn":

Aneek & Bluf - Wrong Turn
