news BGKO Faces Jail Time; Dre'sta Prepares New Album - September 23, 2007 By : Yash

On March 28th Parole Officers and Section Eight authorities along with local police came to his [BGKO's] wifes residence with a warrant, stating that a tip off had been received stating that she had a parolee living in government housing. The tip off, which was incorrect as Hasan [BGKO] was parolled yet living at his mother's home very close to his wife and children, was believed to have come from a crew member or his babys momma.

During the search a firearm was found however [BGKO] was deemed to be clean of any "dirty" substances and no "E" pills were found.

They [now] have him for possession of a firearm and live rounds after a warrant was issued for his arrest - a warrant he turned himself in for without incident. The parole board gave him five months for access and when his time was up the D.A. charged him with possession despite having had no bad reports from his parole officer. BGKO's wife lost her house and car to pay for a lawyer to fight the new case and [BGKO] is now afraid that they are making it seem that his past is the reason that he is guilty now. The firearm itself is said to belong to [BGKO's] wife, owned since 1999, however there is no paperwork to back this up.

When asked about the situation BGKO's wife stated; "I basically want to get it out there that this man is not perfect and may have been 'out there' a little more than needed on certain instances - but he has changed a great deal since his youth, and was trying really hard to re-establish himself in the hip-hop movement as well as make up the lost time with his family"

"He is being housed in Wayside and is due back in court on 9/26/07 in Palmdale, C.A, having been offered a deal of 32 months I urged him to decline and fight for his life but the maximum holds eight years,"
she continued.

We will keep all the fans updated with more info later this week.

BGKO's little brother J Roc was shot and killed last week. To share his feelings about the tragic incident Dre'sta released the following song "No More Dear Streets" from his upcoming solo debut album entitled "All By Myself".

The Dubcnn staff would like to send our condolenses and prayers in these sad days to their family.

Head over to Dre'sta's Myspace Page and show him support.

news Rest In Peace Tupac Shakur [11 Years] - September 13, 2007 By : Nima

The dubcnn staff would like to take this time out to say Rest In Peace to one of the greatest artists of all time, Tupac Shakur. He passed away 11 years ago, September 13th 1996 at only 25.

His legacy will always be remembered and kept alive through his timless music, and even though many fans complain about the unreleased music that is being remixed and released to this day, that only goes to show how powerful 2Pac was, and how much he worked before he passed away.

So pour out a little liquor, blaze one up, say a prayer, whatever you do, to remember Tupac Amaru Shakur today, he will be forever missed.

You might remember, in 2005, dubcnn put up a special 2Pac Tribute, where we hooked up with people such as Candyman 187, Thug Life, Mac Mall, Kadafi's mother, Young Dre, Treach, Digital Underground, Kadafi's daughter, Havikk, Johnny J, Big Syke, The Outlawz, Nuttso, Assassin and more, to get their thoughts on 'Pac. You can still go and check out that feature now by clicking here.

news Teen Phenom Fashawn From The "Grizzly City" - September 9, 2007 By : Eddie Gurrola

Those of you who have followed any of our "Central Cali" updates, including a release from Diego Redd and the Hecktik Soprano presented The Factors project, will have seen the name Fashawn.

The name is the moniker of an 18 year old Fresno teen sensation that is already being touted for success. His latest mixtape "Grizzly City 2" is available today for free download on Dubcnn and if by the time we've told you a little about him you aren't convinced - the first 52 bars on the CD’s intro will have you admitting; "That kid is a beast!"

Fashawn, although still only young, already has ferocious rhymes, killer flow and importantly the ability to craft songs. Coupled with his raw talent, charisma and versatility he is well on his way to proving his "Teen Phenom" status. "I was born into the culture, so it’s second nature to me," Fashawn explains simply.

As a ’90s baby, he’s got all the style and charisma of a modern-day emcee, but the rhymes of a veteran beyond his teenage years. When asked to name the emcees he looks up to, he’s quick to answer with Rakim, followed by Nas, Snoop, 2Pac, Ras Kass and Pharoahe Monch.

Within his short time in the industry Fashawn has already convinced many of his ability, already being recognized as a leader in Fresno’s rap scene, steering a vibrant pack of young hip-hoppers adorned with purple bandanas and T-shirts marking their Grizzly City movement. With his streetwise persona, borne from this upbringing in rough East Fresno, he can deliver street knowledge as well as kickin' it with the skaters who listened to Hieroglyphics. That combination yields a street-smart rhymer who can deliver content. "A lot of people can rap and spit bars," Fashawn says, "But I want to write songs."

Already with three mixtapes under his belt as a solo artist and two with his crew Section 8 (Grafik, Bravo and Night), Fashawn is a busy young man - we are giving you the chance to get ahead of the game as in a few years everybody will saying what people in Fresno already know. Fashawn? That kid is a beast!

news Dubcnn Presents: E-Knoc's Weekly "Fryday" Series - September 7, 2007 By : Rud

Last month we refreshed your memory on Los Angeles native E-Knoc who had been scarce on Dubcnn during 2007. We released his first street album in early August, available for download as part of the Dubcnn Digital Distribution Network, entitled The Promise Land.

Since then E-Knoc has been continuing to distribute the CD locally as well as taking in the new support gained from its release online. With the hefty hiatus from our pages seemingly frustrating for his fans, E-Knoc has decided to ensure they get a dose of him once a week with the Fryday Series.

Every Friday E-Knoc will deliver a new track to the readers of Dubcnn in the aim of keeping his name buzzing and increasing his burgeoning fanbase. Today is the first installment in the Fryday Series, those of you who saw this launch last week will have seen we removed it midweek due to an error - no such mistake this week - this is the real deal where E-Knoc demolishes one of the N.W.A. reunion tracks; "Hello." We urge you to check out the track and leave your feedback on it, in our Forum Thread.

news Finess Discusses "Text Sex" On "Raw Romance" Release - September 7, 2007 By : Rud

Ever the breaking ground for talented new artists from across the Hip-Hop arena, Dubcnn keeps up its well established tradition with the unveiling of a rarity - a female MC.

Having been born in Northern California, Finess spent much of her youth moving from city to city across the state before finding roots in Los Angeles. Finess has been refining her craft over recent years having found at a young age that writing was the best outlet to express herself; "I like to write about what goes on around me" Finess explains.

With a seductive storytelling style, Finess emerged onto the rap scene with music that can appeal to both sexes in 2005. Her initial recording led her to create a full-length album "Finess Is" which had the goal of making people aware of who 'Finess Is'. In October of 2006, Finess released her first mixtape, "Kiss the Rest Goodbye," the cover to which can be seen here, which helped to solidify her name locally and increase her online fanbase.

Today we have news and audio from her most recent release, the downloadable project "Raw Romance: Volume 1." The track we have to sample from the release is a Dae One production entitled "Text Sex." The cut can be download below, share it and drop your thoughts on our Forum.

Finess - Text Sex (Produced By Dae One)

Stay tuned to Dubcnn for the latest news and media from Finess, in the meantime; check out her official MySpace page, her official website Finess 911 and her "Raw Romance: Volume 1" mixtape download page.

Just over a month ago we reported that Shade Sheist & N.U.N.E were heading to Japan in August to appear at a host of shows across the country [see; Shade Sheist & N.U.N.E Head East To Japan For August Shows].

The duo recently returned and informed us of a successful trip and event that saw them rock sold out shows; "We just got back from Japan and it was huge success. Our venue sold-out, we sold all our merchandise and we set the tone for next month's Ice Cube and WC concert in Japan," explained Shade Sheist.

Shade continued; "We have been invited back out for more shows this year, so we will keep you posted on the dates. While we were out there we hooked out with one of Japan's more popular Hip Hop artists, "Two-J" and we will be collaborating on a project to be released through Universal Music Japan."

He also told us that they are currently in talks to release their fashion line "Hands-On Clothing" in Japan. In other news Shade Sheist also informed us that he ran into Butch Cassidy and Damizza, who were also in Japan performing at a seperate venue, and got to talk before they caught a flight - suffice it to say that the much discussed Damizza and Shade Sheist feud is over, much to the delight of their sets of fans.

We have a set of photos from the event as well as some video that Shade Sheist and the Put Yourself Out family have provided. The videos can be seen here while the pictures can be viewed in our exclusive Event Gallery link below.
