Indef Delivers "The Product" With Bishop Lamont - October 29, 2008 By : Rud

A native of Santa Monica and West Los Angeles, Indef (short for Indefinite) is a name that has been featured on Dubcnn but always attached to another person or release.
Today this unconventional MC is on Dubcnn to show of his witty, off-kilter, and socially conscious lyrics on his own two feet and is determined to grab the attention of today's hip-hop listener in a time where punch lines and relevant content have fallen by the wayside in favor of catchy hooks and dance moves.
The oldest of six growing up in a single home, Indef has remained very close to his family to this day, promptly citing them as his biggest influence. He has a positive outlook on growing up in the struggle as a young black male, saying, "It's enabled me to earn a degree from the School of Hard Knocks!"
Indef has gained attention from his appearences on J Dilla's "Dirty Instinct Exit 3," the "Tupac Assassination Soundtrack" and the Bishop Lamont projects Pope Mobile, N*gger Noize, The Confessional and Caltriot.
He is now gearing up to release his debut solo project "The Product" - hosted by Bishop Lamont and presented by Aftermath Records & Diocese Records, the 19-track-set features all original music with guest appearances from Butch Cassidy, Bishop Lamont, Taje, Noni Spitz, Mike Ant, & Young De as well as production from Focus, DJ Khalil, Black Milk, Dae One, Thayod, & "Jedi" Jared Moore. Jake Records Introduces Draztic To Dubcnn! - October 28, 2008 By : Chad Kiser

It's time to meet Draztic, an up-and-coming artist from Chicago, signed to Seattle's Jake Records. His album The Image of Pain is available as of today at all the usual online outlets (iTunes, Amazon, etc.) and in select Illinois and Indiana FYE stores. Jake Records label mate Shock G called Draztic "the truth" and everyone else who gets their ears on his music generally nod up and down in agreement. His beats come off with this old meets new sound that’s both catchy and gritty. Dubcnn sat down with Draz for some quick coffee-talk; here's how it went down: Your album The Image of Pain is dropping right now, as a newer MC what do you want people to take away from this album? What are you trying to convey? That we are all everyday people that share the same life experiences. I want people to feel the passion and genuine approach that I try to reflect in the music. I will never pretend to be other than what or who I am. I want people to hear it, enjoy it, and feel optimistic about hip-hop & life on a whole. Chicago has its share of known rappers and producers, who from the Chi is a favorite? Tough question, however, I'll put it this way: Out of the big names, Common would have to be the guy for me. He has one of the best catalogs as far as musical integrity in the industry. Com is that dude! Kanye is nice! Juice & RhymeFest are nasty with the freestyles, two of the best to ever do it. Also there is Ilonde Kelley, Profound, Phoebe Mack, Tillie & and my fam DJ Mars holding it down. As far as producers, DJ Jazz, Debrece & Xtra, Trey Carruthers, Mike B. These are all enormous talents that I respect and admire. Jake Records is your label, and they're making lots of moves on the Indie scene. How'd you hook up with those cats? I actually linked up with Jake out of admiration for Digital Underground. I was never into a lot of label stuff as far as trust. However, I saw that legends of D.U.'s status had inked a deal with the company, and I felt secure in the idea that it could be a fit for me and I gave Scott a call. The rest is history. I know you're focused on the debut record right now, but what are Draztic's plans for the future? What can we expect from you next? I have been busy securing features on outside projects and assisting in helping a few others in my camp finish LPs. My goal is to continue pushing and supporting the project. Aside from that, I really want to continue creating music. Even with an album dropping I am still in create mode. It's hard to drop the pen when ideas are flowing. There are many Draztic things coming for the 2009....
Be sure to hit up Draztic on his Myspace and stay tuned to Dubcnn for the latest on Draz and Jake Records!

Ciscoe (West-Coast Producer from Norway) - October 28, 2008 By : Jonathan Hay

Dubcnn recently stopped by the studio to meet the savvy producer behind all the latest noise. They call him Ciscoe – the young, dedicated producer from Norway – and he’s all about the west coast.
“[I’m working on] a very west coast conservative duo-project with Shade Sheist which will feature many prominent west coast artists,” Ciscoe tells Dubcnn exclusively. He also eagerly reveals that he’s working with Bad Azz, one of Long Beach’s finest emcees with a krazy history in the game, as well as appearing on Mellow Man Ace Presents: La Familia, a series of highly-anticipated music compilations gathered by the legendary west coast Hip Hop Hall of Famer, Mellow Man Ace.
Ciscoe’s unsullied ears and natural melodic instincts layer with his funky west coast vibe for an uncharted sound that’s everything easy on the ears – and fun to move to. He showcases his skills to their fullest in his latest production by the upcoming Top Draft Pick R&B/pop mistress, Sabrina, in the sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek debut single “Madonna’s Lust (The Unglamorous Life Of The Material World)” featuring Mellow Man Ace.
Ciscoe will be premiering his upcoming music exclusively through Dubcnn. Also, we’ve got Ciscoe talking about recording tracks with Shade Sheist, Mellow Man Ace, Bad Azz and more in an upcoming west coast exclusive interview! (And speaking of Mellow Man Ace we will be bringing his exclusive interview to you this week on Dubcnn.com!)

Exclusive KO The Legend Interview - October 28, 2008 By : Jonathan Hay

Jay-Z personally said KO The Legend is "dope" and people everywhere are saying that exact same thing. Felli Fell endorsed him and broke his single on Power 106, and KO The Legend has broken records for most consecutive week's freestyle champ at the powerful LA radio station.
KO did an insanely hot remix of Plain White T's hit single "Hey There Delilah" and is getting love everywhere from such heavy-hitters as Brittany Spears and Clinton Sparks -- who also did the official KO The Legend Mixtape. "I'm west coast until the wheels fall off," says KO in this exclusive Dubcnn interview.
It is obvious that KO is in good company, and a wise-person once told me that success is built from a collection of relationships. This artist is on the verge of legendary things -- and in the words of Dead Prez, "It's bigger than hip-hop." There is a star rising from the west and we got our eyes on him. The legend continues…

Raje' & Hi-Tek Ready To Take You "Dead Or Alive" - October 27, 2008 By : Rud

Just last month we reported that Dubcnn regular Raje' has inked a deal to release his debut album "You're Welcome" in January 2009 via A.S.A.P./Koch Records - the first single we released in September was So Fly.
In September Raje' told us; "See I was a dreamer, so if I was going to sell weed, I was going to sell it all! If I was getting money from my ladies, I was tryna pimp em for real! But everybody's not built for that, and I couldn't do it. I just believe that some of us are made to accomplish way more,"
Having looked over 5 record offers from labels, including So So Def and Universal, Raje' decided that independent was the only way to go with the current climate of the industry. After moving to Los Angeles to join forces with Jazzy D, Raje' found his home with Koch Records.
"You're Welcome" will have guest appearances by Glasses Malone, Chino XL, Dirty Birdy, Goldie Loc and many more. We also reported that Raje' was working on a mixtape for release before the album with DJ Ill Will, Killa P, & Mixtape Assassin.
"Power and Change" is the name of the mixtape, due for release on ThanksGiving, that features Lloyd, T-Pain and more as well as production from Hi-Tek.

Let's get things going with the aformentioned Ludacris track, which is taken off Luda's upcoming solo project "Theater Of The Mind". After releasing the radio friendly single "What Dem Girls Like", fans were waiting for something more rugged to be released off the album.
This is that one right here! Luda reached out to The Game and DTP signee Willy Northpole to come join him on a certified banger called "Call Up The Homies", check it out:

Sly Boogy Returns With "The Beauty Of Death" EP [Audio] - October 25, 2008 By : Nima

A few years ago, Sly Boogy was considered one of the most promising artists coming up out of the West Coast. Not only did he possess an incredible lyrical skill but Sly was also putting the I.E. (Inland Empire) on the map.
As most of you know, he was set to come out through J Records, with his successful "California" single building his buzz, but (what a surprise), label issues kept Sly from having the success he was supposed to have. After his Scott Storch produced banger "That's My Name" revived his buzz for a while, as of late it seemed as if the King of The I.E. was nowhere to be found.
That being said, I have some great news for all the Sly Boogy fans out there. He contacted dubcnn this week to get the word out about his new EP, which is entitled "Beauty Of Death" and will be dropping for free download on dubcnn on October 31st.
Incase some of you thought that Sly might have lost his touch after his long absence, get ready to be proven wrong. We have three tracks off the EP for you to preview and you will see that the man is still sharp as ever. The track "Let's Go" is also the single, for which a video is being shot, so look out for that on dubcnn soon.
Sly Boogy - Let's Go! Sly Boogy - West Up (ft. Kierra) Sly Boogy - Keep On (ft. Crooked I, Kam, Miss King & A.P.)
We also have a short promo video for the "Beauty of Death" EP, which is pretty controversial, check it out below:
Sly Boogy - The Beauty Of Death EP (Promo Video)
Features on the album include the PBG, a group consisting of Sly Boogy, RnB and Dirty Birdy, as well as Crooked I, Kam and vocalists Kierra, Miss King, AP and Jah Free. Production was provided by TWhy, XL Middleton, The System, Tweek Beatz, and Noah Ayala.
The "Beauty Of Death" EP is just a prelude to a full length album that will be released in early '09. Get ready for the return of Sly Boogy, the man has a lot to get off his chest!Discuss This Topic

Eric Bobo Of Cypress Hill Prepares Solo Project [Audio] - October 25, 2008 By : Nima

Nacional Records is proud to announce that percussion phenom Eric Bobo (of Cypress Hill) will release his debut album 'Meeting of the Minds' on November 18th. 'Meeting of the Minds' brings together many of Bobo's friends and creative collaborators from across his life, including B-Real, Sick Jacken, Ill Bill, Mellow Man Ace and Eric's father, the latin Jazz legend Willie Bobo.
The album follows Bobo's wide range of influences - as a Puerto Rican whose childhood was spent surrounded by jazz revolutionaries to his days immersing himself in the underground hip hop scenes and touring the world stages with the Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill.
Throughout his career, Bobo has been known for recording and performing with a large variety of leading artists including The Black Crowes, 311, Gnarls Barkley, Rage Against The Machine, Smashing Pumpkins, Soulfly, Ella Fitzgerald, Fort Minor (feat. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park) and Psycho Realm. "I'm very chameleon-like," Bobo explains. "I feel comfortable playing in a lot of different settings. I can do a hip-hop album but also play with The Black Crowes on something very rootsy. Or I can play with Soulfly, a heavy metal group. To do all these things, it has really opened me up musically."
In August 2005, Bobo entered the studio in Tucson, Arizona to record his debut album, 'Meeting of the Minds'. The album is an eclectic collection of songs that represent what Eric Bobo is all about. "I am really excited to be able to make an album that has songs with artists from Ill Bill, one of most dope MCs in underground hip hop, to Toy Selectah, whose group Control Machete were influenced by Cypress. That was the concept of 'Meeting of the Minds', to put all these different worlds together. Making some of the most oddball combinations and seeing what comes out."

San Quinn Readies "From A Boy To A Man" - October 24, 2008 By : Lil Jay

San Francisco's favorite son, San Quinn, will finally release his anticipated solo album "From A Boy To A Man" on November 25. SMC Recordings will proudly release the follow up album from Quinn's 2006 release "The Rock-Pressure Makes Diamonds", his first solo album with the company.
San Quinn explains that what sets "From A Boy To A Man" apart from his past releases is how personal it is. "I just put my life on record. I did it for my family, my fans and Fillmoe." San Quinn said. The album's title track is a direct reflection of life in San Francisco - Fillmore to be exact. The detail Quinn gives, puts fans on the same streets as him. It's that sentiment that resonates throughout the entire album.
"It's not a secret that Hip-Hop has lost it's way and rappers have blown sh*t way out of proportion," explains Will Bronson (SMC's co-founder). "So Quinn went in and gave them what they wanted- that honesty, that reality that people are dealing with everyday. The dopest thing is, when we approached producers about doing the album, they we're just as excited as us and you can hear it in the songs."
Quinn enlists fellow Bay Area artists Too Short, Mistah F.A.B. & PSD Tha Drivah among others for some explosive collaborations on "From A Boy To A Man". A special appearance is also made by Quinn's 10 year old son, Lil Quinn, on the track "Billionaire". As he has on previous releases, Quinn recruits longtime production partner Cozmo (Scarface), CHOPS (Bun B), Traxxamillion, Sean T and newcomers Dex Beats and Automatic.
This album has given Quinn the chance to tell his fans the story of his life and though some of it might be negative, he feels that he was able to shine something positive on each track and give his fans the good music they deserve to hear.
Check out the tracklist along with a download link of the first single, "Double Dose of Gangsta", below.
1. Boy to a Man (Intro) 2. They're All Waitin' On Me 3. Wind It Up 4. Double Dose of Gangsta ft. Chops 5. Rockin' Up Work 6. Reinforced Steel feat. P.S.D. Tha Drivah and Cozmo 7. We All Gone Eat 8. Common Market Exclusive Interview - October 23, 2008 By : Jonathan Hay

There is nothing common about the cutting edge and soulful Seattle duo consisting of RA Scion (lyricist) and Sabzi (producer). “Refreshing” is the one word that comes to mind for this stellar group, who just released their fresh LP Tobacco Road in this stale and simplistic world of hip-hop noise.
Common Market is everything hip-hop heads have been searching for as they bring you intelligence, creative introspective and melodic substance – and they’re not too afraid to get personal as they passionately spit about life, love, art, religion, politics, and anything else running through their uncommon minds. Hip-hop is in dire need of a change and like the late great Sam Cooke sang, “A Change Is Gonna Come.”
SPIN Magazine says Common Market is “...a cadence and voice reminiscent to Talib Kweli, lyricist RA Scion excels at spitting rhymes designed to motivate and educate. Meanwhile, producer Sabzi serves up a bevy of head-bobbing beats featuring dusty soul samples and hard hitting drums.” KRS-One gave Common Market his own personal stamp of approval for this conscious and prolific hip-hop group that has fans and critics raving.
We caught up with Common Market during their busy schedule promoting Tobacco Road (Hyena Records/Massline) for this Dubcnn exclusive interview.

Convinced Is Back With New Album & Video - October 20, 2008 By : Lil Jay

Long time Dubcnn readers will be familiar with Convinced, one of the most promising new talent on the West Coast. After getting tremendous feedback for his last album "I Do It For The People", which was made available for free download last year here on Dubcnn [see: Convinced "I Do It For The People" For Free Download], the Los Angeles emcee is back with higher ambitions to make even more noise this time around.
After spending much of 2008 in the studio, Convinced created countless tracks for his new project called "Refreshing". The name didn't come out of nowhere, as Convinced has been working hard to bring a fresh new sound to the table. "I never look at it as trying to be different or in a separate category, I look at it as trying to be creative in my own little world" Convinced said about "Refreshing". "It's gonna be a classic album, it has that feeling from the golden era of Hip Hop to it. I call this album my Illmatic, because it will bring people back to that essence of when Nas, Redman and Ras Kass first came out."
"Refreshing" is gonna be another project for the fans (and A&R's), as it's gonna be available for free download again. Most of the production was handled by his partner J-Trax. "I let my personality go over the music, that's why me and J-Trax have such an awesome partnership. He comes from every angle with his emotions and lets it out on the music." Convinced said about working with J-Trax. A perfect example of what they cooked up together is the lead single "Miss Memory", which has been doing well since its release back in January. After having this record on rotation for so long, Dubcnn is happy to announce that the video for "Miss Memory" is (almost) here and it's being accompanied by the album as they both drop together on October 28th.
To hold you over until it drops, Convinced came up with a little appetizer for his fans: He recently released a mixtape prelude called "The Refreshing Freestyle Countdown" which consists of 21 songs recorded in 21 days. It can be downloaded for free by clicking on the link below. Make sure you stay tuned for both the album and video at the end of the month.
Convinced - The Refreshing Freestyle Countdown (Mixtape)
We'll leave you with a final quote from Convinced: "I want this album to introduce the world to me and I think we accomplished that and I'm definitely excited to see the reaction." So be sure to hit him up on his MySpace page once you've heard the thing. Discuss This Topic

Exclusive Interview With People Under The Stairs - October 19, 2008 By : Jonathan Hay

People under the Stairs (!K7 Label Group) is a provocative rap crew hailing from the streets of California who are celebrating a decade in the game with their new and invigorating release Fun DMC, available everywhere right now. This is the sixth studio album by the vastly original and respected artists -- Thes One and Double K -- who make up People Under The Stairs aka P.U.T.S.
Fun DMC is literally an “L.A. record” as this innovative duo went to the streets of South Central to record the sounds of weekend barbecues and parties, capturing a sound and atmosphere that is impossible to recreate in the recording studio. P.U.T.S is a machine within themselves, as they put together their own beats, rhymes, scratching and artwork for this release – and every P.U.T.S release.
Dubcnn got access to P.U.T.S during their non-stop touring and publicity schedule to get this exclusive interview, as they become transparent and open up about all things under the stairs. This colorful and stimulating interview is a necessary read -- Hip-Hop needs these people under the stairs!

Coinciding with the delivery of "Block Obama II", Crooked I has partnered with INgrooves, a leading provider of digital distribution, to start his own digital label, with plans to not only release his own content but other aspiring artists. This year, INgrooves entered into a strategic partnership with Universal Music Group, the world's leading music company. Exclusive Epademik Interview - October 14, 2008 By : Jonathan Hay

Little did we know what we were in store for on this sunny southern California day in Orange county when we caught up with Ca$his for a quick minute. While talking a little about his new album and upcoming tours, Ca$his mentioned his man, Epademik, telling us about their song "Mr. Know It All" which was just added to Shade 45 (Eminem's Sirius Satellite radio station).
With that being said, we dug a little deeper into the existence of this crazy emcee named Epademik – because after all, if Ca$his co-signs for him, then he's must be doing something right!
So we hit up Epademik and found that the conviction he portrayed was raw emotion with a purpose – reminding us of a time ten years back when a white emcee from Detroit took the world by storm with his raw lyrical skill -- never biting his tongue on any topic.
Could Epademik be the next one to carry that torch? You decide for yourself. Epademik gave Dubcnn the exclusive to his first single "Aired Out" - Download it below. You also should check out his hilarious Dubcnn Shoutout -- it's unlike any other you’ve heard!
