"
On The Come Up" is dedicated to new artists, unsigned or not, who are trying to get some shine and exposure on dubcnn. This section is for those who we recognize have already generated a buzz. We understand that for talented individuals or groups new to the scene it is difficult to get publicity and have the opportunity to display their music. As a result we have, over a period, written many pieces on new, up and coming artists on dubcnn. We now dedicate a full section to those with the skills, desire and product to present to a vast number of readers what they are about.

interview GRAND SCHEEM   (January 2007) | Written By: Rud

"People sometimes say you have to scream to be heard...but I do it differently - I just scheem till I'm heard!" At the age of one, when he moved from Karachi, Pakistan to a 1 bedroom apartment in Opa Locka, Florida (USA) little did Grand Scheem or his family know about the realities of the new life they had embarked upon. Like many third world immigrants, the lure of America is in the imagery created by marketing and the belief they can have a better life away from their home land; for many this is the case - for others the travels can bring oppression, struggle and heartache to those involved.

interview KITTY   (January 2007) | Written By: Rud

When we first heard her in 2006 we were initially inclined to reveal her talents straight away. After much deliberation however we decided that the world was not ready and that 2007 was to be Kitty's year.

Female rap artist Kitty, was born Kendra Holland on January 12 in the Philippines, before moving to Southern California. Having gone through college Kitty, who is the proud mother of one baby girl, started writing poetry and quickly incorporated her poetry with beats. It was became obvious quickly that she possessed a lyrical talent.

interview JAG   (July 2006) | Written By: Rud

Watts, CA is fast emerging once again as a hot bed of unsigned talent and skills both from a lyrical angle and a production standpoint. Today we are proud to present an artist born in Watts before moving later in life to South Central LA.

Jag
was born Ryan Joyner, raised in a single parent home by his mother. Music was not in his mindset until 1994 when he heard the Notorious B.I.G's hit single "Juicy" on the radio - it was then he felt a desire to embrace the culture and attempt to tackle the music industry as he grew up.

interview FATE WILLIAMS   (May 2006) | Written By: Rud

Westcoast female MC's are hard to come by, however there are plenty out there. The most well known and to many the greatest female to ever grace the MIC is The Lady Of Rage formally a Death Row recording artist. More recently Diamonique has been representing the I.E. and the coast with her mixtapes, album and shows.

Today dubcnn, as we are famed for doing, want to introduce a new talent who wishes to edge into the spotlight and into your attentions as a female force in a male dominated Hip-Hop industry.

Diego Redd - "Hottest In West Or Whole U.S? If you were an Up & Coming artist how would an endorsement from Kanye West register? Exactly, it doesn't get much bigger when the current "IT" man in Hip-Hop says; "One of the hottest out of the west or all over the United States"  Now if that isn't enough to make the world sit up and take note I don't know what is. Enter; Diego Redd, now if you ain't knowing - get knowing, read up and school up right here on the hottest talent out of Fresno, California

interview BIG STUNTZ   (April 2006) | Written By: Rud

In early 2006 we premiered a new artist by the name of Big Stuntz out of Long Beach, CA. This solo artist was something different; something fresh, someone with the talent and most definitely the drive to add another dimension to the game.

Coming from the Northside of the LBC Big Stuntz, whose government name is Terrance K. Grayson, was born on May 27, 1980. His musical journey began at the tender age of nine when he learned how to play the drums - his love for hip-hop then spawned after hearing a mixtape featuring Kool G. Rap.

interview HALLA   (April 2006) | Written By: Rud

Another Watts representer has earned some "shine-time" on dubcnn, this time we have the Los Angeles born and raised artist; Halla. Equipped with slick punch lines and metaphors but with the ability to construct a track which comprises a concept and concise structure.

In these days where everyone and they momma is a rapper his kind is a rarity and welcome addition to the talent that is floating around the westcoast.

interview TRUTH   (April 2006) | Written By: Rud

Although northwest Louisiana is not often aligned with dubcnn and Hip-Hop; today marks an exception. In 1982 an artist was born who goes by the name of Truth. Child of a middle-class pre-school teacher and papermill worker, he was the families only son. As the years progressed he found the perfect way to express himself was via lyrics and as a youngster began rapping accapella with no knowledge of structure. As his 'poetry' evolved he found ways to portray his life when he was transferred to a city high school where he quickly began to see life in a new light, and began to see struggles that occurred in the streets.

interview YUNG WALT   (April 2006) | Written By: Rud

You will be forgiven for wondering when you first download these tracks from newcomer Yung Walt if we have presented something other than Hip-Hop, the track "Playboy" although starting with "I know you gonna dig this" presents a soulful sound with a light tempo that may surprise you - if not then "Dreams" surely will; with its light 'keys' intro that lulls you into the song with its melodic feel and unbelievable catchy hook...you'll soon be wondering when you hear the tracks if we have stumbled across something a little special with this artist.

interview MC CLAIN   (April 2006) | Written By: Rud

Lynwood, California has - as many areas - its fair share of MC's hustling to make it in the industry, one we want to showcase here today goes by the name of McClain.

Hailing from the Pimp-Infested, money hungry streets of Lynwood he has grown up most of his life with no father, surviving off welfare, sharing everything he possibly had with his 4 younger siblings as they moved from city to city including Fresno, San Bernardino, Long Beach & Compton.

interview CASH DNIRO   (March 2006) | Written By: Rud

"I spit for South Central and speak for the ghetto. From my hood to your hood we all go through similar things and im hear to report what's real for the real." Words from the voice of South Central Los Angeles; Cash Dniro.

Why that name? Well it combines the birthname of Mohammed Ali (Cassius) & the surname of the actor Robert De Niro in shortened format; the reasoning, Cash Dniro is a combination of both Power and Skill. Raised in the 80's in South Central he was growing up in the crack era of Los Angeles.

interview SENE   (February 2006) | Written By: Justin

Dubcnn is known for breaking young and fresh talent, and this next artist is no exception. I would like to personally present an artist by the name of Sene, originally hailing from Brooklyn, this 20 year old New York native now finds California as his new home. Having personally witnessed his recordings, I honestly do not know anybody of such youth that can spit this well. Since moving to California, Sene has made countless appearances on the show "Breaking Atoms" on 91.9 KCSB. He has a very heavy local following, and has caught the ears of artists such as the Stones Throw camp, The Beatnuts and Prodigy (Mobb Deep).

interview 2 aka TOUSSAINT  (February 2006) | Written By: Rud

Now dubcnn is world renowned for opening eyes to new talent, some you take to, others you don't - thats life. Yet every now and again an individual or a collective grabs your attention and urges you to listen and take note. Over the years individuals such as Bishop Lamont, Glasses Malone and some others have requested that respect from their grind, talent and dogged determination to succeed. Two more that strike me are Bad Lucc and his Westurn Union collaborator Damani; both grinding, working hard to succeed in what is a difficult industry.

The first of which, Bad Lucc, dropped what can only be described as a "Street Classic" track last year by the name of "City Life" which featured the vocal talents of Toussaint on the hook. The track outlined the struggle of inner city living and captured an essence not often portrayed well via music, yet they managed it and to acclaim from all corners of the globe. Now Bad Lucc is a big supporter of dubcnn and as such he promised he would let us hear more from Toussaint and as ever has come through for you the readers with information and music.

interview DANGEROUS GOODZ   (January 2006) | Written By: Rud

Emerging out of Long Beach California comes a duo with an existing buzz and a hunger for more. Dangerous Goodz were introduced to me last year by a good friend of mine at Songbuz Magazine and i did a small article on the album and premiered a track off their debut album, "Change Gone Come". Since then the group have had the streets of L.A. buzzing and successfully pushed thousands of units out the back of the truck. The duo compises of Qwest (Earl Siler) and Outwest (Jonathan Grier) who both grew up on hip-hop listening to a collective of artists such as Run DMC, N.W.A., L.L. Cool J, Ice Cube, Big Daddy Kane, EPMD & Ice T.

interview PEDA MAN  (August 2005) | Written By: Lil Jay for Westcoast2k

"Bringing it from the South all the way to the West straight to yo' soul!!"

Peda Man, originally from New Orleans, moved to the Bay Area at a young age. "I moved out here after I was fucking up so much, so I started pursuing my football career. Music has always been my thing and I was always whoopin everybody on the freestyle, but rapping was always second to football. But dreams of being a professional football player ended when my scholarship ran out. So I went right back on the streets again and I hooked up with Black Tie Records. And that was basically our relationship, little music, more street. My whole life been a hustle, whatever it took, it was always a hustle just to make it, period. Hustle hop is the way of life, that's what I live and die by." Peda Man told us.

It is perhaps apropos that an MC by the name of Balance is leading the battle to restore order to a Hip Hop scene once bristling with creativity, now over-saturated in mediocrity and monotony. After witnessing the Bay Area and West Coast rap elite fade into obscurity for the last six years, Balance and a fresh collective of talent, known as the New Bay, are upping the ante of skill and hit making in the Oakland/San Francisco area.
